We're making our first trip in late October this year. We'll be staying off-site for the first half of our stay. We'll have two days at WDW before we move over to PoR for the remainder of our stay. His argument is he wants to experience the difference between off-site and onsite in case of future visits.

We didn't know that MNSSHP (is that the right acronym?) meant an extra ticket, so we won't be attending. That means less time at MK for us. MK has evening EMH the first night we plan on using our tickets. I think it might be worthwhile to get a room at one of the Value resorts if possible to take advantage of those, but I'm not sure.

If you have any arguments in favor (or against) that I can make to him, I'd appreciate it! Thanks.

might go to another park - Epcot or Studios that first night - and not get a value room - that say I am cheap. that say you will be paying about the same for MNSSHP vs value room.

So you're staying off site the first 2 days, then transferring to POR? I think I got that right?
So for first 2 days off site you'll have to have a car rental to get from airport to hotel, if you were in a WDW resort you'd have free airport service, AND you don't need to bother with getting your luggage either. They are delivered to your room. You will also need car to go to the parks. Most offsite hotels have very limited park shuttles,(with the exception of the Disney Springs Resort area) and many just drop you off at the TTC, then you have to get the park bus or monorail from there. You will also have to pay the daily parking fee. No EMH. So, you may be saving some $ on room, but have added cost and hassle of rental car, gas, and parking fees.

Once you get to POR you'll wonder what you were thinking staying off site. Show him pics!! The POR thread has some beautiful photos posted, you have to dig around. Or search KC Mike on the thread, he has some amazing photos. It really feels like a vacay there. Beautiful lush landscaping, a boat to Disney Springs, fun evening entertainer, horse & Carriage rides....
Allears.net also has lots of resort photos. We love the mansion section.

For a first trip I would recommend a full on site stay if you can swing it. Disney can be overwhelming, and I'm a big fan of simplifying so you can focus on where you want to eat, what you want to do in each park, etc.

Agree with all of this... when you factor those additional costs in will you be saving any $ by staying off-site. Is it just you & him or are there others in your party?

You wanna go back & stay on-site? Spend those two nights off site, he'll come around to your way of thinking next trip.;)

Actually, we have a week off-site. We'll be going to the Space Center (my FIL was an engineer who worked on all space flights from Mercury through Apollo 11 and DH lived in Coco Beach until he was 16) Sea World, Universal/IOA, Discovery Cove, Aquatica and Bok Tower Gardens (DD is a horticulture major). We'll probably do Epcot for our one off-site day before moving over to POR. We'll definitely have a rental because we have a lot of places to go. I wanted more time at POR, but couldn't convince DH because of the cost.

He's not sure we'll go back, so we're doing everything. It's pretty exhausting just to think about! :)

We've stayed in Cocoa Beach pre WDW stay, for 2-3 nights. We went to KSC and my daughters love taking surf lessons at RonJons! The last time we were there the instructor was the same one that gives lessons at Typhoon Lagoon. Then we move to WDW.
We've also done split stays between Universal Resort and WDW resort. Universal resorts provides shuttle to SeaWorld. And their value resort is really reasonable. And very cool. You could spend allotted days at Cocoa Beach, go to Gardens, then dump rental and stay at a Universal Resort, book a car service to transfer you to WDW. :D Then of course you can take DME back to MCO!

I leave my husband home when I go to WDW :upsidedow It's a girls only trip with one or both DDs. Disney is just not his thing. And I love the 1 on 1 time with my daughters!
