Hi all, we are traveling to Paris next summer and will be going to Disneyland Paris for 2 nights. We will be using our DVC points to book the 2 nights most likely. Disneyland hotel looks rather outdated, but maybe it's great in person? Any experiences for people who have stayed at both or either would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hey, I admit I'm biased on this one but I'd go for Disneyland Hotel, the decor is beautiful, the bar is lovely and the restaurants are the best of the hotel options.
I've stayed in the Hotel New York once and it really didn't vibe with me, the dated Apple decor is horrid and I don't think it captures the spirit of New York in the same way that say, Seqouia Lodge captures the National Parks.
Of course it's all down to you, but I would even have to think twice on choosing.

DLH every time for me. We love it. (My husband prefers it to the Floridian)

I'm not in love with HNY actually prefer the Sequoia Lodge and would choose staying in the SL Golden Forest club over staying at the HNY if we ever couldn't afford DLH.

I love DLH too. The decor is beautiful and location cannot be beaten. If money was no object we'd stay there every time.

We do also really like HNY too and always end up there because the jump in price between HNY an DLH is massive compared to price difference with the other on-site hotels. I do like the look of Sequoia Lodge Golden Forest since the refurb but haven't been there.

I think the rooms in DLH are the same generally unless you go Castle Club or suites where you get other benefits. You can ask for park view rooms too at an extra cost.

Am I the only person to have been slightly underwhelmed by the DLH? I think the decor is just as dated as the HNY's and the bathroom is similarly unluxurious. The location of the DLH can't be faulted of course but on the other hand I sometimes wanted to walk to the Village anyway - it certainly is no big hardship to walk that little bit further and the saving can be spent on other things.

I'm writing this from one of my favourite rooms in the HNY, ground floor Gramercy Park with a south facing terrace (and outdoor chairs) onto the garden square. The rooms seem a similar size, beds are just as comfortable and breakfast isn't much different from what I remember, I can only think of grits being missing from the HNY menu and I'm not fussed about that. I do much prefer breakfasting in the Manhattan to the Diner though. The only really annoying thing about the HNY rooms (and I'm sure this will be addressed in the refurb.) is the miniature room safe which can't even fit my purse or Kindle in let alone anything bigger!

As much as I do like DLH, the hike in cost between the 2 is just too much and not worth it for us unless there is a really special deal on.

We'll be at HNY in 4 days time, which will be our 8th time staying there. I think that speaks for itself, lol.

We've had differing safes over the last few years. Last year we had a much larger electronic safe that could fit a small laptop no problem. I think they must update them as needed.

Hope you're enjoying your stay :)

Good info, thank you guys! I do think Disneyland Hotel bedding looks horribly dated unless its been updated since the photos were taken. Newport Beach hotel looks like it recently got an update. Making a decision is a challenge!

I enjoyed my stay at the Newport Bay Club in February - renovations will be going on for some time but I wasn't too bothered by them when I was there. Just a note - go with an open mind as resorts will be different than DVC resorts at WDW. I also like the Sequoia Lodge and the Newport Bay for the price. The Newport Bay Club is a moderate resort but I really enjoyed the pool and steam room and found the walk to the parks very enjoyable and not too far.

If your budget allows it I would ALWAYS book Disneyland Hotel above any other Hotel. Don't let the supposed outdatedness cloud your judgement. Disneyland Hotel in Paris is actually at the end of Main Street USA. The main entrance turn-styles into the park are UNDER the hotel. Depending on your budget and room location in the hotel, it is possible to watch the evening night show Dreams at The Castle from your hotel room!

The hotels in Disneyland Paris and the park itself are very different to the American Parks. Like PP said, go with an open mind, don't expect the hotels to be the same or the parks to be the same. I try to explain it as a Frenchified Disney, meaning its an American style park with the social, cultural aspects and behaviours of France / Central Europe.

I haven't stayed in HNY, but stayed in a family room at DH last year. I was also underwhelmed. The décor is just regular European, nothing special. Its proximity to the park is fantastic, though. I would only stay there again if I got a fantastic offer - otherwise I'd love to try the HNY.

Thanks guys. Being centrally located sounds good and we are using our Disney Vacation Club points so the cost isn't quite as painful. Were there certain rooms you all stayed in or are they all pretty standard?

I haven't stayed at Disneyland Hotel yet, Santa Fe and Sequoia Lodge, and New York Hotel booked for February. I would do a search for trip reports from Disneyland Hotel. I have read a few and seen some amazing photos of the rooms and room locations.

I've booked a standard room each time. In March this year we were upgraded to a King Room with terrace.

It was very lovely but I wouldn't have said it was worth paying extra for.

If there's a certain location you prefer then drop them an email, but I was happy with our standard room and equally happy with our free upgrade last trip.

The terrace was nice but it was march, in northern Europe, so not like in WDW where we can sit on the balcony and have a drink.

For reference - In DLH I am happy with standard room. In WDW I have always had Savannah view at AKL, a Boardwalk view at BW, and theme park view at GF and BLT. I'm a balcony/view fan where it matters, but with DLRP they are such short trips and not guaranteed balcony enjoying weather, so I'm not that fussed.
