I need helping choosing a DSLR. I thought the Canon Digital Rebel XT would be perfect for me (and it still may be) but I thought I would get everyone opinion's here first.

I am an amateur photographer, but I wish to go pro at some point. At any rate, I will be taking all sorts of different photos. Ranging from sports to children photography, macro, and landscape scenes. I already have a Nikon SLR and a point & shoot digital camera, but I'm looking for a Digital SLR.

Any suggestions? Should I stick with the Canon Digital Rebel XT?

if your Nikon SLR is auto focus, you might want to consider sticking with Nikon since you already have lenses..

Actually I only have the 1 lense that came with the Nikon.

If I get a Canon EOS, I have 2 lenses (one that came with the camera and one long lense) available to me immediately.

If you have the advantage of getting that extra lens on a Canon, then I say stick with Canon. Then it is just a matter of which model, which may come down to how much are you willing to spend.

Exactly. I plan on sticking with a Canon, but I just don't know which one? :confused3 I'm thinking I can spend anywhere from $0-1500.

I should add that if your budget is tight, skip the high end cameras and go with a Rebel series body and spend whatever extra money you have on better glass. If you get really good glass, you'll keep it for much longer than you are likely to keep your camera body. It'd be kind of silly to use a 1D series body with a cheap consumer zoom.

For up to $1500 your choices are pretty good. Of course there is the new Rebel XTi, and the Rebel XT, but also the 30D.

My choice would be the 30D, for the way it handles. I find changing the settings on the Rebels to be a bit of a nuisance, and I change the settings quite often.

If you tend to leave the settings alone the Rebels have about the same image quality as the 30D, for a lot less $$$. If you use high ISO a lot the 30D is cleaner at 800 & 1600 (and it has 3200).

With a budget of $1,500, I'd be tempted to pick up someone's used Rebel or Rebel XT and put the rest of the cash into a good lens.

When working out what you are going to buy, don't forget to include ancillary items that you might want or need - CF cards, a tripod, an external flash, a camera bag, a better strap, a portrait grip, a hand strap, a polarizer, a cleaning kit, a CF reader, a good printer, a photo hosting site, photo editing software, etc.

I purchased the Canon Rebel XT....takes great still and slightly moving shots with no problem. Programs are easy to use. But I guess I pick the worse sport to start learning on becuase I am so frustrated and can use all the help I can get. I am TRYING so hard to take inside baskeball pictures. I don't want just pictures of them standing and dribbling...they are fine. I want fast up in the air shooting shots. at least one part of the pictures is always blurry. I am beginning to think my camera is a lemon.

I have figured out already that I need a wide angle lens or an attacment.

But basicly I need guidence. Tell me what lens, what setting for the inside of a gym standing behind the goal.

Please someone help me.

It isn't a wide angle lens you need, you need one with a wide appature. I use the canon 70-200 f/2.8L without IS lens for most of my sports pictures.

here is a wrestling one, that shows good stop action, in our same gym they play basketball in...

a monopod will also help you alot as well
