Help Me Choose a Cabin

We need your help! My sisters and I (ages 58-66) have a reservation at Fort Wilderness Cabins for Food and Wine Festival. We have never been to this resort, so we need help choosing a cabin to request. I understand you have to ride an internal bus to get to another bus stop where you will board a bus to your destination. I also know that you ride a boat to the Magic Kingdom. We will be spending most of our time at the Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Downtown Disney. My eldest sister will have an ECV, the rest of us will be walking. Which cabins would you Fort Wilderness experts recommend?

Which cabins would you Fort Wilderness experts recommend?

If you want a Handicap-accessible unit, which is wider inside to accommodate wheelchairs and ECVs, they are in the 2800 Loop. We get this type of unit. The bathrooms have the raised toilet. You can get a tub with grab bars or a roll-in shower. Be sure to specify.

The internal bus stop is on the main road, not far from the Loop entry. Our experience has been that the Ft Wilderness Internal Buses are usually there within 5 minutes of waiting, and they are the friendliest CMs you'll ever meet. The drivers are expert at strapping-in an ECV quickly.

We took the internal bus in one direction to the Settlement Depot (Pioneer Hall-Boat Dock-Animal Barn), and in the other direction to the Outpost Depot Bus Station for the Park buses. It's a surprisingly short ride to Epcot and MK. At the Settlement Depot, we took the big boat to MK. Boat time was about 12 minutes. There is also a smaller boat -- a launch -- that goes to Wilderness Lodge and Contemporary. This smaller boat won't handle an ECV, as you have to stop down into the boat.

The internal bus will also stop at Meadows Depot, which has a Trading Post (groceries and souvenirs) and an area where the nightly Chip and Dale Campfire and Singalong (and movie) is held. Great fun!

We found a grocery and supply list in our cabin, so things can be ordered and delivered to the Cabin. We didn't do that, but it seemed very convenient.

I've requested a cabin at the ends of a loop. Might hear a little bus noise but less walking to the bus stop. Have fun, the cabins are adorable!

I'm not sure by your post if you plan to request a specific cabin, but that's never a good idea. If you ask for a specific cabin, it's likely that particular one will be unavailable for your dates and then the CMs won't know why you requested that cabin (i.e. they won't know what features you want). Instead, request the type of cabin (accessible, near the end of a loop, or on a loop, etc.).

What I would do is book a cabin. Then, call Disney and explain to them exactly what you wrote on your first post. They will be able to at least type in what you said. They won't be able to tell you much more than that as they are probably not even close to Disney World but at least you will have talked to a human being. That way, you specifics are noted on your reservation.
