nothing has jumped out at me yet, though I'm looking @ several things

We only have 3 days -or 1 day if it takes all day to travel there & back

I don't really want to do an amusement park - but I could I guess

I really would like to do something either out in nature (camping/swimming in lake/river)

or something semi-educational for the kiddos
but something FUN

what I'm looking @ right now are

New Orleans (haven't been since Kat but have done aq & zoo prior)
Atlanta (been to aqaurium & Stn Mnt though not real recent)
Valdosta (yep, thinking of Wild Adventures)
Chatanooga (aquarium there)
just a plain ole state park & camp
Desoto Caverns
Huntsville (for space center)
Houston (for same)

Not interested in the beach (grew up on beach)

Can you give any other suggestions? Something you've loved doing as a family?

Where are you? Do you want to drive or can you swing flying? Are you trying to stay sort of local? I think answers to those questions, might help job my mind :). Oh, how old are the munchins?

Last summer, my kids and I stayed at a farm for a couple days. They loved it; they fed the animals in the a.m. and p.m. and just hung out the rest of the day. I think they're called 'farmstays' if you want to search for one in your area.

Thanks - never head of the farmstays - I'll check it out.

Have added B'ham to my long list today - LOL

I feel like we're in a high-tech game of Marco Polo, LOL.

It looks like you are targeting the Southeast US. Will you be driving or flying? Is money no object, or do you want to do this on a budget?

Have you considered the area around Pine Mtn/Callaway Gardens in Georgia? It's an hour outside of Atlanta. Very nice up there in summer, and these days there is plenty to do. http://www.pinemountain.org/1001-1.htm

You are mentioning the 3 days vs 1 day for travel time but haven't said a more approximate location than southeast....

Lake Lanier north of Atlanta has camping, a lake, a waterpark and boats which can be fun too...
You can camp at Stone Mtn as well, with newly added kid fun features and a cool lazer show at night (and a lake)

90% of our mini-vacations entail flying to Orlando and going to WDW for a couple of days.
