Hello,

Someone on the Community Board suggested you guys might be able to help me.

here's my original post:

My siblings and I are sending my parents to the Grand Floridian for two days to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. We have dinner at the castle and a private dining experience already set up for them, but I'm looking for a little something more and I'm stumped.

I'd like to greet them with a gift box/basket, but I'm not sure what to put in it. I'm going to have bride and groom ears with 50 years embroidered, but other than that, I'm at a loss.

We're also getting them a cake for their private dining, but I'm struggling finding an example of what I'm looking for. We could always go with the basic white fondant with gold mickey heads stamped on it, but somehow that doesn't feel celebratory enough. I want a cake that screams "Celebration!!!". I'm thinking two layers (there's 9 other family members joining us the next day, so the cake won't go to waste). I love the mad hatter type cakes, but my parents are a bit more traditional. I just don't seem to be able to find anything that catches my eye.

Does anyone have suggestions either for the box or the cake? I'm open to anything since I'm totally drawing a blank!!

Thanks for your help!

There was a great suggestion of trying to recreate their cake, but unfortunately my parents eloped and there were no pictures and no one present other than the preacher and his wife (both are now deceased). There was also a suggestion of a by the decades picture book (great idea!)

Can anyone offer anything else? My parents are non-drinkers (too much medicine! but unfortunately that means no bottle of champagne). My mom, particularly does love Disney and they've been to Disney World probably 40 times since 1971, so I'm looking for something to wow them. Hard to do when they know the place inside out!

Thanks for amything you can offer!

Check out disneyflorist.com. You can get a romantic room decoration from Mickey & Minnie. It comes with a dozen roses, signed congratulation picture from mickey & minne, couple of chocolates, battery lit candles, bath set, personalized towels and you can even upgrade and have personalized robes.
You can even add any little etra treats in there if you want.
My parents don't drink either and we order this for them for their anniversary in Feb. They loved it! You don't have to have the exact items in the description on the website. you can add or take away to make it personal just for them. If you order it as is it's $265. When we order it we told them all the little things that my parents like and gave them a budget of $500 and told them to add whatever they like.
The people at the florist are amazing to work with, they will do whatever they can to make everything perfect! I highly recommend them!

Have you considered a fireworks cruise? That might be a nice surprise for them to go out and watch Wishes or Illuminations!

Does anyone have the list of fireworks cruise prices handy? SInce they will be at the Grand Floridian, I think they can get picked up there?

Here's a link to the info about the fireworks cruise: http://www.wdwinfo.com/recreation/fireworks.htm

OP, it sounds like you already have a lot of amazing stuff planned. The only other thing I can think of is maybe a private photo shoot of your parents to commemorate their 50th. You could have Disney's Photopass do it, or you could use Disney Event Photography, OR you could hire a local wedding photographer to do a sort of "engagement" shoot. They could take pictures around their favorite resort(s) and then you could put them in a photo book for your family. I think this would be really neat with photojournalistic pictures - wedding photographers are especially good at capturing those.

As for the cake, this thread contains pictures of all the sample wedding cakes Disney has shots of, plus the cakes of the members of this board - maybe you'd get some ideas there: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1618642
