We have a Maytag (not bravo) that we bought 5 years 1 month ago......the pressure switch went out (that's the part that tells it that the water has filled up and shuts off the water....overflowed and flooded the room!!!!)
Anyway.....it's a simple replacement so hubby called appliance shop to get part....ordered it via model number over the phone.....go to pick up part and it's not the right thing....ours is large and metal the replacement part is half the size and plastic. Figured the guy looked it up wrong....take original part in and the guy tried to find it in the online catalog, no go.....called his supplier who pulled another off the shelf, nope, plastic small not big metal.....tried calling the Maytag store and same thing, wrong part under our model number.
So I get on the phone and call Maytag repair from the tag on the washer...even though I don't want to pay for a repair guy, I just want to get the part. Explain the situation and after a bit of checking they call me back and tells me that since it's over 5 years old they don't carry parts.
Ummmm, excuse me? So 5 years is the expected LIFE of a washer now? Wouldn't it make more sense that they don't stock parts for something LESS than 5 years old because it shouldn't be breaking? (We had this problem with our vehicle because it was a totally new model and they weren't stocking parts for it because it was too new for those parts to break yet....ummm, wrong, it's broke, lol.).
So I asked point blank....so you're telling me that Maytag washer aren't expected to last for more than 5 years. And he in all seriousness and with no humor, said "that's a long time for an appliance m'am".
Gee, tell that to the washer that we replaced 5 years ago....it was 20+ years old and we only replaced it because we were moving and decided it was too heavy (all metal not plastic) to move it would be cheaper to buy another when we arrived. WRONG!
So...I'll never buy a Maytag/Whirlpool again, if they only expect them to last for 5 years!
So...now to use my washer I have to unplug it, and switch out the wires because my DH jerry-rigged it so that you fool it into knowing when it's full and when it's not. What a pain, but at least I don't flood anymore!
But I'm researching on the longevity of washers now, as I fully expect a washer to last me at least 20 years.
