Help Making Disney Trip DVD (examples)

I have two hours of video and about 800 photos from our family trip to Disneyland last April and I am ready to sit down this fall/winter and put it all together into a DVD. I have decided to get the new "Sony Vegas Movie Studio" program and I think I should be able to figure it out just fine with the manual and various internet resources. The problem I know I'm going to have is that while I do OK with the technical side, I have a little trouble with the creative side (my wife takes care of that in our family).

So while I could just drop the movie clips and photos into the program and burn a boring/plain dvd, I am looking for examples of some of the movies/slide shows that you guys have put together to give me some inspiration and ideas on ways to spice it up. I know I've seen a few good videos from posters in the past, but now that I need them I can't find them.

I don't really have an idea yet what "look" I'm going for. But my primary audience will be my DS9, DS7 & DD5. What thing I'm having trouble invisioning is how to incorporate BOTH video and still photos.

Any inspiration anyone can give, whether you have video examples or not, would be very helpful.

I would only suggest that you don't rush the process. You've got too many dreary Washington days to get through before you see the sun again... This will be a nice way to pass the time until about, ohhhh, like June or so.

You should start taking your trips in January like I do.

It will require a plugin but it's small and safe.

After looking at the version I have posted I see it's much smaller than the completed version. It only has one menu item where the finished DVD has several different choices.
If you would like to see the complete show let me know and I'll work on getting it posted.

Wow, that is amazing. I really like how you incorporated both video and still photos, they blend together well. It looked like you gave every photo some sort of panning effect, some more than others, and it kept it from feeling too "static" I think. And interupting the slide show for Tony's workout is exactly the type of creative things I'm looking for. And I really liked the music, most of it was instrumental versions of disney songs. Where did you find those?

I used ProShow Gold, which is not as versatile as Vegas or Premiere but is a lot faster to use.

I used proShow Gold as well. Easy to use and, as you've already seen, very versitile. The still image panning (the Ken Burns effect) makes for a nice slideshow. There is an auto option that just gives a little motion, or you can customize the pan like I did with the girls at the princess breakfast.

The music is all from different Disney CD's, Websites, Newsgroups, etc. that I've collected over the years.

The one drawback that always annoys me when going to DVD is that you have to take those beautiful 8 megapixel photos a knock them down to fit in the lousy 480P image of an SD DVD. Sometimes it's just too painful to see the loss in quality.

On the flip side, I've taken pictures of pretty questionable quality and made 'em look pretty good on an NTSC screen.
The low resolution & narrow color gamut can be helpful at times

A friend of mine, and fellow DISer, Kevin Stringer did a video for our recent cruise instead of his usual trip report.

Not sure quite what you are looking for but it integrates both stills and video. Need to look at Stringer homepage and then click on April 2006 video.
