About a year ago, I posted a question about dd buying a mac vs. a pc. A lot of people recommended the mac, and that is what she got and loved up until this morning when she opened it and discovered her screen was cracked. She claimed she did nothing- used it last night and when she turned it on this am, it was cracked. Even though she takes very good care of it, I assumed she must have done something, and we went to the Apple store where we were told it was accidental damage and not covered under her warantee or the extended plan we bought.
Replacing the screen was $750, and buying a new one was $1000, so we opted for the later. Tonight, I started to do some research and found hundreds of cases like hers.
I guess we are committed to keeping the new one, and I hope to get the other fixed by someone locally and use it myself but I am really concerned that if it is a defect with the product, we just invested a bundle more for the same thing. To top that off, my younger dd was planning to buy hers for college this week. Any suggestions? Many of the situations sounded just like hers- went to bed, woke up with the crack. Could it be from closing it while it was still warm? HELP!
