My DH calls these "sappy" but they are exactly the kind of songs my DD (age 8) LOVES.

So far I've downloaded:

"Butterfly Kisses" (Bob Carlisle)
"That's My Job" (Conway Twitty)
"Love, Me" (Collin Raye)
"I Hope You Dance" (LeeAnn Womack)

See a pattern here? Tearjerker type stuff is what I'm looking for. Any and all suggestions are appreciated. She can listen to them and decide whether she wants them on "her" CD I'm making, but I need some song titles to try.

Thanks!

I'm Already There (Lonestar...I think)

Wind Beneath My Wings (Bette Midler)

Concrete Angel (Martina McBride...I think)

The entire Manilow catalogue!!! ;)

Don't Laugh at Me by Mark Wills
Tough Little Boys by Gary Allen
Where Have You Been by Kathy Mattea
Then They Do by Trace Adkins
Lacey's Song by Buddy Jewell
Don't Take The Girl by Tim McGraw

I noticed a little country theme, so I went with it.

Garth Brooks - The Dance
Faith Hill - There you will be
Pretty much anything by Sarah McLaughlin! (Arms of the Angels, I will remember you)
Josh Groban - To where you are
Somewhere out there - from American Tale
Any rendition of "on my own" from Les Mis (my neice adores this song)
Madonna - "I'll Remember" or "This use to be my playground"
Can't remember who sings it but there's one about "holes in the floor of heaven".
Also, there is a new one I've heard lately I'm thinking is by Martina something about it being crowded on the streets of heaven and holding her little girls hand to cross the street?

I'm a lover of those types of songs myself but some of my suggestions above walk a fine line between sappy and depressing!

DEFINITLY "THROUGH THE YEARS"...KENNY ROGERS?KENNY LOGGINS?
ALSO.."VALENTINE" BY MARTINA MCBRIDE IS A GOOD ONE.

Scarlet Ribbons. The version I have is by Michael Crawford on his Christmas Album. But many have recorded this and it is not just a Christmas song.

How Can I Help You Say Good-Bye - (Patty Loveless?)
Tough Little Boys - Gary Allan
The Greatest Man I Never Knew - Reba McIntyre

"Dance With My Father" by Luther Vandross.
My Grandpa died in July of 2002 and it's just broken my Grandma's heart. (they would have been married 60 years this past July) My uncle sent copies to his 2 sisters (my Mom & Aunt) and one to Grandma. My Mom called me after she listened to it and was just sobbing. It does the same thing to me each time I hear it.
:(

Back when I was a child, before life removed all the innocence
My father would lift me high and dance with my mother and me and then
Spin me around 'til I fell asleep
Then up the stairs he would carry me
And I knew for sure I was loved
If I could get another chance, another walk, another dance with him
I'd play a song that would never, ever end
How I'd love, love, love
To dance with my father again
When I and my mother would disagree
To get my way, I would run from her to him
He'd make me laugh just to comfort me
Then finally make me do just what my mama said
Later that night when I was asleep
He left a dollar under my sheet
Never dreamed that he would be gone from me
If I could steal one final glance, one final step, one final dance with him
I'd play a song that would never, ever end
'Cause I'd love, love, love
To dance with my father again
Sometimes I'd listen outside her door
And I'd hear how my mother cried for him
I pray for her even more than me
I pray for her even more than me
I know I'm praying for much too much
But could you send back the only man she loved
I know you don't do it usually
But dear Lord she's dying
To dance with my father again
Every night I fall asleep and this is all I ever dream

How Can I Help You Say Goodbye was also recorded by Laura Branigan. Great song.
How about Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton

I CAN ONLY IMAGINE by Mercy Me

Honey by Bobby Goldsborro

Puff The Magic Dragon - Peter, Paul & Mary

Esmerelda51, I LOVE Michael Crawford's Scarlet Ribbons!:D

I will take care of you - Amy Sky (really sappy song, makes me cry all the time).
Christmas Shoes - New Song
Angels Among Us - Alabama

How about a little Elvis !

In the ghetto
Love me tender
The wonder of you

Thank you for all the suggestions so far!

I was trying to remember the Patty Loveless song earlier this evening and was hoping someone had suggested it so I'd have the title.
