We have always stayed at BCV in a 1BR villa because our 3yo absolutely will not fall asleep if he is in the same room with us. We tried this once in a standard hotel room at the Hilton for a friend's wedding and he literally stayed up talking to us past 1am!

Recently, we went to Great Wolf Lodge for a vacation and the rooms were laid out with a half wall separating the beds from the sitting/sofa area. It was wonderful...we set up the pack and play on the other side of the half wall and all was great!

Now we are planning another trip to WDW and we have booked a 1BR at BCV because from all my research, unless we pay megabucks for a suite in a deluxe, it is the only way we can guarantee an out-of-sight sleeping area for DS.

I was just reading, however, that the rooms at Contemporary are larger than other deluxes. Are they at all laid out so there would be an area to set up the pack and play that is out of sight of the beds and also in a spot that we would not have to walk past on the way to the rest rooms? I would love to try a monorail resort, but this issue has scared me away. And booking 2 adjoining rooms at Contemporary costs more than the 1BR Villa, so I have not considered that.

Thanks!

We stayed in a garden wing standard in the North Wing. That room didn't have a place to put a pak and play where your little one wouldn't see you, except perhaps by the closet and bathroom door, which of course would be right in the line of sight for anyone going to or from the bathroom. The CR rooms are large, but they are definitely just one hotel room. I understand there are some larger rooms in the garden wings, junior suites or the like, which may meet your needs. Perhaps someone who has stayed in one of those could comment.

I too stayed in a garden wing standard, North Wing. There is no place that is out of sight, unless you put him in the entry way between the closet and the bathroom door. Now we put our DD there at 1yo because she too had the talking problem. She went to sleep there just fine. But we had to wait until she was asleep before we could turn on the tv or sneak past to go to the potty. Sorry, I always say potty. She sleeps soundly once out so it was not a problem to go to the bathroom with her right there. The toilet is in the bathroom, but has its own private area, seperated from the sink/shower area with a door, so the noise didn't wake her either. I would suggest the jr. suite if you can swing it, which we can't. :guilty:

I don't know where you read the rooms at the CR are larger, they absolutely are NOT. We stayed in a renovated room recently and for jsut DH and myself we found the room small and very much lacking in storage space. They may look spacious in pictures, but when you are actually in one, there is a lot of wasted space and the actual living space is very limited. There is no way your pack -n-play will have any room. it will most likely take up most of the free space in the room.

The roooms at the Poly reportedly have the largest sq footage followed by the GF, which are just a little smaller. However there is not the kind of space you are speaking of in a standard room , the pack -n-play will not be out of site of your bed. The only room we stayed in that would have the kind of room you are speaking of (that we have seen) is the Victorian Suite in the GF. It is a 1BR Suite. The Concierge Deluxe rooms are very spacious, but the pack-n-play will be in site of your bed, but it will be out of the way so you would not have to store it or have to move around it.

goofie4goofy: The rooms at the Poly and Contemp are the largest on property in square footage. The original Poly and Contemp rooms are the same size, with the added on Poly rooms being slightly larger, IIRC.

I would recommend a junior suite in the garden wing if you can afford it. They have seperate areas.

We had a two room suite in the Garden Wing once. It had a king bed in the bedroom (with the bathroom attached to that), then there was a separate parlor style room with a Murphy bed, wet bar, and sitting area. It was back at the end of the wing on the second floor facing the lake. We lucked into an upgrade because we were checking in at the end of September when they were doing some kind of big press event on Oct 1, and they had overbooked (it's the only complimentary upgrade I've ever received). It was a great room, but I think it's a little pricey. They also have two room suites in the tower, and I KNOW those are pricey. Your best value for the money is the 1BR at the DVC resorts. Have you considered VWL? I stayed there in September and although it's not on the monorail, the boat transportation to the MK was very convenient.

---------------
Have you thought a Junior Suite at CSR?
Or a Family Suite at All Star Music?

Here are some reasons I like the Family Suites at All Star Music.

*** They are 520 square feet.

*** The Family suites are located in the Jazz and Calypso buildings at All Star Music.(these are the closet buildings to the food court and the bus stop.

*** They cost less than a standard room at AKL or WL.

*** They have a QUEEN size bed (the other values and even the mods do not have a queen bed.

***the fridge is included (if you booked 2 connecting value rooms you would need to pay $10 extra for a night for a fridge if you wanted one.

*** They come with a microwave and coffeepot (If you booked 2 connecting value rooms you would not even be be able to rent a microwave and coffeepot.

***They have 2 TV's (if you book POR or a Deluxe room which sleeps 5 you will have 1 TV)

THey have 2 bathrooms (if you book POR or a Deluxe room which sleeps 5 you will have 1 Bathroom.

Here is my review:

Dh and I stayed at new Family Suites at All Star Music September 21,2006.

We stayed in 0416 which is on the ground floor. Room 0418 which was next door was not a Suites so the Suites are not all grouped together.
The living area was the best. There was a small table with 2 blue modern looking chairs by the window area.

The chairs had a small amount of cushioning and curved backs and seemed more conformable (to me) than the old straight back chairs they had in the old All Star Music rooms. The table top was wood grain and there were silhouettes of Mickey all abound the edge in a darker wood color.

The living room area is very roomy when the furniture is the closed position.

When you first enter the room you get a feeling that you can take time to relax and spread out in these rooms. The cramped feeling is not there. there is a sofa, chair and ottoman which fold out into beds. There are two small end tables and soft foot stool for the sofa.

06.jpg

The TV was a 27 inch flat screen and the cabinet had three drawers under the TV area. There were two shelves next to the TV and a cabinet door which opened to reveal 2 more shelves.

9-26-2006-36.jpg

I opened up the chair bed and it was very comfortable to lay down on. The back of the chair actually rests on the floor supporting the chair bed when it is folded out into the bed. It was pretty amazing the way they designed the pull out furniture!
The frame of the bed is metal so when I went to get of the chair bed I did feel the metal bars at the edge of the bed.

9-26-2006-14.jpg

I tried to get the ottoman into the master bedroom area but I am sorry to say the ottoman is just too wide and will not fit through the door jam.

The sink and closet areas in the suites also have privacy curtains.
The sink areas have 2 shelf cubbies under them for storage and a Kleenex tissue area under them. There are wall mounted hair dryers with the built in amber night lights on the walls by the sinks.

9-26-2006-33.jpg

9-26-2006-31.jpg

Each dressing area has a privacy curtain, closet area, iron, ironing board and wall safe. The wall safes are the standard size which will hold a wallet a cell phone a small DVD player, a personal CD player, or a few CDs but it is not large enough for a lap top or anything that is more than a couple of inches wide.

9-26-2006-32.jpg

Remember the Suites have 2 bathrooms, 2 dressing areas with privacy curtains, 2 safes, 2 hairdryers, 2 closets, 2 TVs, 2 separate sleeping, areas and 2 TVs.

Here is the layout of the Suite:

ASMusic_FamSuite_layout.jpg

The kitchenette has a lot storage area also.
There was an ice bucket with 6 plastic cups on the countor and a coffeepot with 6 of the throw away foam hot cups.
There were 6 paper plates, 6 paper bowls, Paper towels and a silverware tray on an upper shelf.
The silverware container had 6 sets of plastic ware and a can opener in it.

13.jpg

The kitchenette has a nice size microwave, and the fridge is the larger under the counter dorm fridge. The fridge has small freezer on the top which was big enough to freeze my 3 small ice pacs for my meds. The area for the freezer is not very high. You might be able to put a couple of small water bottles in it to freeze them but a larger water bottle would not be able to fit in the freezer area.

9-24-2006-03.jpg

The Master room was nice size and it was nice to have a desk area with a mirror over it so it also sure as a make up area if one chose to it as such.
The TV cabinet had 3 nice size storage drawers. The easy chair next to the bed was nice addition. I enjoyed being able to sit there instead of using a table chair or bed to sit.

The queen size bed was conformable. The AC at newly refurbished has been updated to Cental air style instead of the old under the window style. It worked fine while we were there. Our room was very quiet.

18.jpg

15.jpg

The Master area had enough room for a twin size aero bed if you placed the bed with one end by the window and had it running between the desk and the foot of bed. (You would need to move the desk chair out of the way. )The aero bed would block the access of the Queen size bed from the far side, however. The bed was a Queen.

There were only a few things in our Suite that were different from those pictured on the DIS resorts homepage.

1) The headboard was smaller than the one pictured here taken from the DIS resorts homepage.

2) The tile on the kitchen floor and bathroom floor was tan and navy blue instead of the tan and white in the pictured room.

3) Ironing boards and iron were in each closet area.

Mousekeeping was great.

Mousekeeping left plenty of towels and we were pleasantly surprised by a pair of love bird towel animals when we returned to our room on evening midway through our stay!

The Calypso pool was never crowded even though the Fantasia pool at Movies was closed during the time we stayed Music.

We never waited more than 5-10 minutes for bus and only shared buses on the way back from some of the parks. Music always had its own bus back from MK.

Any questions? Just ask and I will try to answer them.

Here is the layout of the CR room:

A lot of the square footage is in the bathroom and entry area.
The sleeping area is not that large.

I agree, there is a lot of wasted space in the CR rooms. That layout looks like the old rooms before renovation. The new room we stayed in has even less "living" space. There is still a day bed in the room but no longer a table and chairs. There is a small end table and a very small square ottoman on the other side of the daybed. In the corner there is a glass wrap around desk with a computer (in CL rooms). There is now flat screen TV's so you lose the space of the armoir as it is wall mounted on a mantle. the hallway has 2 very small closets and very small drawers. The closets and drawers were just like the ones you see on a cruise ship...very limited. Between the 2 small closets is the fridge and a marble counter (more wasted space). The bathrooms have also been redesigned. There are 2 very large (I mean large) square low shallow sinks and no counter space. You have to use one of the sinks for your toiletries. There is a room for the toilet which has a sliding door and in that space is enough room for 3 people...more wasted space.

So with all this wasted space, the living/walking space is very limited. Your shoes have to be on the floor (no closet space for shoes as there are small drawers there instead). There is no place to stow your luggage either. The daybed winds up being a second closet and there is just no space to hang out.

goofie4goofy is right alot of wasted space.

After looking at those photos I agree. I think there is more useable floor space at a value resort! There is room between the little table and the window or between the TV and the little table in a standard room at the All Stars for my ECV (see photo) but I have no idea where I would put an EVC in the newly remodeled CR room.

9-24-2006-26-2.jpg

In the Family Suites there is a lot of usable space until/unless all of the
fold outs are folded out . Even then there would be plenty of room for my EVC.

In my opinion the sleeping area of the standard rooms at all of Disney's resorts -- deluxe, mod or value is too small. No wonder guests who have only stayed a Disney deluxe are afaid to try a value.

They must think the value rooms are matchbox size since they can hardly move around in a room in a deluxe.

There is not much room size difference between a mod and a value.

Here is the layout of a mod.
The bathroom is about the same size as the All Stars but you will have 2 sinks instead of one.

portorleansriv.gif

POR room lay out *note CSR does not have a luggage seat.
here is the All Star room layout'

All_Star_Sports_Room_View.gif

All Star room layout

POFQ,POR,and CSR has 54 square feet more than the value.
That means if both the mod and the value room were 27 feet long than the mod would be 2 feet wider. Just enough room for a double sink instead of a single.

CBR is 340 square feet which means it is 26 square feet bigger than POFQ,POR, and CSR making it maybe half a foot longer and wider than the other mods.
There is not a lot of room size difference.

--------------------------------------------------

Most of the "extra "space at the deluxe( ex.Beach club) or the cheaper deluxe (ex. AKL) is the bathroom area.
And that really isn't bigger just laid out different with an extra door.
The extra room ,the extra square footage is actually the entry hallway!

Wow!!!

These responses have been amazing!! Exactly what I was looking for, but I guess it looks like Contemporary won't work for us with our 3yo unless we try an expensive suite.

I love the layout of the new family suites! For now, the convenience of walking over to Epcot with the stroller has us hooked on BCV. Maybe I should consider becoming a DVC member!

Thanks so much for all the responses!

consider renting points from a DVC member first.

there is rent/trade DVC forum on this board

Looking at the AKL layout, could you cram a pack n play by the door in the hallway? We are staying at WL, and the layout is similar. If I brought hooks, could I hang a sheet so our 2 yo DD couldn't see us?

There are privacy curtains separating the closet/sinks in the Mods. They are there to allow guests to change clothes without having to do it in the bathroom. Perhaps this will work for you guys? There's ample room on the sink side for a pack and play.

Once you stay at a DVC resort, especially a 1 bedroom, there's no turning back!!!LOL I was good though and it took 2 stays at the BWV before we became members. You wouldn't believe how great the rooms are!! I do love that Disney made the family suites at the ASMU. That was a great idea and wonderful option for families. But, I do agree with you. Being able to walk to Epcot, and MGM and have the BW right there, and SAB can't be beat. You'll love it!! BTW, a BCV 1 bedroom is 727 sq ft.

You are so right!! Don't you wish they would build a DVC resort at the Contemporary? That might be the best of all worlds with the monorail access. But you are right, we would probably miss SAB.

I am one of those believers that a DVC at Contemporary will be coming after the ones at AKL are completed!! I plan on a big add on there!!! :teeth:

I agree.
I have been waiting 15 years for a DVC with monorail access.

I know before the CR renovation (not sure if things have changed since the refubishment) they only had one HA room with a rollin shower in the tower. That was located on the Atrium club level (12 floor) and it was frequently booked a year in advance.

I am really hoping that a DVC is built at the CR. If that happeners than the new DVC will need follow ADA guidelines and more HA rooms will be built.
The CR is my favorite deluxe resort and if a DVC at CR is built I will buy DVC points.
I too am still hoping!
