Got a call today saying that due to rehabs, we can no longer stay at the Poly concierge during our visit in Oct. They will move us to concierge at any other deluxe except GF. We've stayed at the CR, WL, AK, and BC before. Just wanted to know what concierge experiences you've had. I'm leaning towards the BC or Boardwalk, but I really wanted to see the fireworks over the castle at MK from the resort. I have to call back tomorrow...please help!!
Any info will be appreciated!
Thanks,
Michele

I have only stayed at the 12th flr concierge at the CR but we had a MK view and it was incredible. You are so high up and see so much when the fireworks are going off. I could even zoom on my video camera and see the logs going down on splash Mtn.

Since you want to see the fireworks, I would definitely choose CR, but make sure that you are getting the 14th floor, not the 12th.

I am not sure if they will give you 14th floor at the CR. They may only offer you the 12th floor. This would not be a fair trade as the 12th floor is not a full concierge. I would go to the BW. It is my favorite place and I have been at the Poly, Bc and YC. The cast of the BW and the lounge are wonderful.

If it were me...and it very well may be...I would switch to a non concierge room at the Polynesian.

We have reservations for Hawaii in October but haven't been bumped yet. We are just past the dates that have been floating around on the boards. But if Hawaii isn't finished by our arrival date, I'm sure we'll choose to just do a gardenview room. :sunny:

Thanks for all your advice. We stayed at the CR last Thanksgiving and my dh did not like it at all. He just flat out refuses to stay there. We seriously considered a garden view at the Poly, but I'm celebrating my birthday and so is my daughter and goin' concierge was part of the birthday treat! I spent a lot of time on the boards last night and I will call Disney back later today to let them know where we want to switch to. Right now I'm leaning towards BW, just from pics I've seen and reviews posted here. We've stated at the BC before and loved it and the area. Decided against BC concierge due to some negative reviews...I know the reviews are personal opinions but some of the posters views really swayed me. I would still appreciate any other input anyone has, especially regarding the BW. Thanks.

We were planning our wedding (complete with a Hawaiian theme) to coincide with our stay at the Poly concierge...then that darn remodel! pirate: LOL!

We were offered to move to a regular room at the Poly, but we really wanted the ammenities of concierge for our disneymoon. We looked at what the other resorts offered. GF was too stuffy for us; the CR didn't appeal to us; and the different levels of concierge kinda through us for a loop. We looked around and decided that BW's concierge was the most similar (in terms of offerings, hours, etc.) to the Poly.

Plus, we weren't sure about park hours then (it was a few weeks ago) and there was the chance that the parks were all going to close around 6 pm. Love the idea of staying near the MK, but if it closes at 6, well, other than a few restaurants and lounges, what is there to do at the Poly? (I know that's going to sound much worse than I really intend it to...)

At the BW, you have the whole boardwalk of activity 'til the wee hours of the morning! There's lots of stuff to do and see...even after the parks close. It really ended up being a better choice for us, I think. Okay, it did kinda change my Hawaiian wedding, but I'm okay with that! :earboy2:

Why not get a Lagoon view room at the Poly? You can see the fireworks every night and use the extra money to make up for the snacks and stuff you would be missing from the lounge?

Congrats, hiway gal on your wedding. I was feeling' pretty bad about the birthday trip not going as planned...but OMG!!!! It's your wedding!!!!! :earseek: You have a great attitude and I'm sure it will still be wonderful. Congrats, btw!! Thanks for the input, I think BW is the way to go. We decided against a regular room at the Poly just for possibly any birthday perks for my DD (she'll be 8) from concierge. It would really make her trip special. :cloud9:

I would stay BWI concierge. :cheer2: It is fabulous!! The lounge is beautiful and the cm's are top notch. You won't be sorry if you choose it. :wizard:

Well, if you had been here a few weeks ago when all that stuff was going down, my attitude wasn't quite as cheery! :rotfl2: I'm sure a few other DIS'ers can attest to that!

It was a bump in the plans, that's for sure. This will be the first time DH2B and I have been to Disney...he was ready to cancel it all! :earseek:

But, I think after the initial shock, and finding something we felt was comparable and fun, the pixie dust settled :wizard: and we are as excited as ever just to be getting married at Disney! :Pinkbounc

I'm sure we would have loved the Poly...but it just wasn't meant to be, I guess.

Bottom line...we're all going to Disney!! :bounce:  :Pinkbounc

How could anything be "bad"!!! :sunny:

I'm sorry your plans got messed up~

I would choose either Lagoon View at the Polynesian for those incredible views :wizard:
OR
BWI CL - it is awesome! I've stayed there twice and it is very special :cloud9:

I just got a call from a friend of mine who is an Imagineer at Disneyland who is in WDW now with a bunch of family members. They had 3 rooms at the Polynesian Concierge and now are over at the BC concierge and in the message I got from them they all said that they agree that the BC concierge is not as good as the Polynesian concierge. We enjoyed the AKL concierge and I have heard great things about the YC concierge.

See if they will put you in a BWI Deluxe Concierge room. You will have more room and an extra t.v. It's worth a try since you are being inconvenienced!

Steve,
Since you've done both Poly and AKL concierge is AKL on par with Poly? I did Poly concierge last year and I was wondering what some of the differences are. Thanks for any opinions you may give.

Aloha joliesmom,

Here was my report from when I just got back from both concierges back in 2002. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=230951

I will say that the AKL concierge was different but well worth the money. The staff was helpful and friendly before we even arrived and the lounge was nice with great offerings. We had a one bedroom suite so the walk to the lounge was long and there is not much of a view from the lounge like at the Polynesian but the lounge was very comfortable. I don’t see the concierge rooms at the AKL as having the preferred location like the Polynesian rooms do but some of the rooms were on the same floor as the lounge and the floor can only be accessed with a concierge room key. If I go back to the AKL I would do concierge again.

If you are just staying concierge for "possible" birthday perks I would becareful of setting your expectations to high. Many disers have stayed Concierge level during special occasions and have received "nothing special".

Personally I love AKL. If your heart is set on the poly switch to a lagoon room and use the extra to set up your own special Birthday perks. Order a special cake, use Gifts of a lifetime, etc...

It will be a geat trip wherever you stay......
