We had a family trip planned to WDW SSR for 12/7-13 but had to cancel the 2BR due to some health issues with our family. There were no studios available at WDW so I took a studio at Vero Beach. It will be me, my bride 2 be, and her best friend. What is there to do? Where do we eat? How far to WDW? How many days to spend at WDW vs. VB? You get the point - we have questions. :scared1:

The resort is truly beautiful. There is a "family" restaurant on-site, as well as a nice bar-type overlooking the ocean where they serve drinks and appetizers (maybe entrees, not sure). They also have a pool-side restaurant. The pool is nice, plus they do campfires and s'mores on certain nights. WDW is about an hour and a half drive away - very easy to get to.

We can do about 3 days at Vero. For food try Squid Lips. Pub type place right on the water. On our next trip we're alos going to try Mr. Manatees and Capt. Hirams. I've heard good thngs about both. All are pub type places. Our kind of places. Activites?? Just relax and watch the waves.:cool1:

It is a wonderful resort in every way. The strange thing is I was disapointed the first time I stayed there. It grows on you. So keep expectations in line.

The beach is great (nice good size waves). Sand is not white powdery but nice shells.

There are jet skis to rent if your into that stuff

Camp fire at night. Targeted for Kids but go anyway. come late if you don't like singing

Good local dining in previous threads but don't expect fancy restaurants. These are good food, beach dinning atmoshere, plastic windows, good alcohol with lots of character.

I don't like shutters. Try the Green Cabin room..better atmospere.

Just plan on relaxing and participate in as many activities as you can.

It is great

It's close to 2 hours to WDW from Vero Beach so that's not the place to stay if you're looking for park time. Vero is a great destination on its own though. It's right on the beach and there are lots of casual, non-chain restaurants in the area.

Have a great trip!

We went a couple years ago with our 22 yr old son, hubby and me. Had a fabulous time! Got a room on the second floor right next to the exit door for the Green Cabin Room. Loved the food there, great drinks, and the best thing...not far to stumble back to the room (if necessary to do so!) Especially loved the garlic fries and the flatbreads (not sure if the menu would be the same, though.) Vero is great for sunrises over the ocean, walking along the beach, etc...if you go, you have to check out the treasure museums (Mel Fisher's and the state-run one, can't remember its name now)...could rent a metal detector and look for treasure, or just buy some in the gift shops. Captain Hiram's will also be a "must" for our return trip there...good food and a great show watching the seagulls beg from the charter boat crews cleaning their catch. We missed most of the campfire but got to visit with the cast members afterwards and had a good time getting to know them a little bit. Enjoyed the sea view and the ocean breeze coming in the sliding glass door to the deck...Have a great trip!:)

You are staying in a beautiful resort with two women and you are asking US what you should do? C'mon, man....... As a fellow Delawarian and Steelers fan, you are disappointing me. ;)

As others have said, Captain Hirams is way awesome. If you're into deep sea fishing, check out Captain Gus, who's at the marina at Captain Hiram's -- and have the spicy blue she-crab soup (and a Margarita).

kayaking with Mary Ann, the resort naturalist, is spectacular. The Green Cabin room is a lot of fun.

Mel Fisher's and McLarty Treasure museums are great. Also Sebastion Inlet at the State Park is just beautiful. Disney is just up the road (about 90 minutes), but really, just chill -- awesome!!

Have fun!
