help! Jiko or O'Hana

If you can get to Ohana in time for the fireworks it's sooooo awesome! I really liked the food there too, but I understand that the menu has changed a bit since we last ate there. Like I said though, if you can time it so you're eating during wishes- it's so cool. I've also never eaten at Jiko so...can't give you my 2 cents on that!

We've been to both restaurants. Jiko was much quieter. Definitely more upscale than Ohana. Ohana was fun although a bit corny at times. It depends on what you are wanting...

The food was fabulous at Jiko. It was excellent at Ohana but I would not call it fabulous.

Bottom line, we felt kinda rushed at Ohana but had very attentive service at Jiko. The evening felt very leisurely but only took 1 1/2 hrs and that included an appetizer, salad course, entree & dessert/coffee.

We took our children both times but they are very accustomed to nice restaurants so I know the children were not a factor in our dining.

You probably can't go wrong either way.

Jiko -- Excellent and creative food and one of the best selections of South African wines anywhere.

Ohana has none of the above. However, it does have lots of noise, rushed service and poor food quality, IMO.

Who's going? If it is just you and your dh then I would highly recommend Jiko's. That is the place where dh & I go when we put the kids in daycare. Real nice place and very interesting food choices. It has slipped my mind what I had last time (some sort of fish..) but it was so good I wanted to lick the plate! I had no idea what to order as nothing appealed to me, so I asked our server her opinion and then ordered what she suggested - so glad that I did. Didn't have any of the wine but plan to next time. Jiko's is probably my favorite sit-down restaurant at Disney.

Jill

Edit! Whoops! Just read your post again and it's your fiance, not dh! (at least not yet! :) )

Hi!

For a romantic and wonderful dinner ... definately Jiko. It is our favorite restaurant in the World! :goodvibes We've been to Ohana and enjoyed it as a good food and fun for the family, but nothing compared to Jiko!

thank you all so much! I am definately doing Jiko. I still may try to squeeze Ohana in but Jiko is going to be a definate! :goodvibes

We did both in April and we like each for a different reason.
'OHana was relaxing and fun. The view over the lagoon was wonderful and if you eat a bit later you can see Wishes over the lagoon. The food was good (not outstanding, but good), the service was friendly and we had a good time.
Jiko was more upscale for sure. It was quieter and felt more elegant. Our food was delicious and we shared a great bottle of wine.
We had a 3 and a 5 year old with us at each restaurant. They are accoustomed to eating in fine restaurants and they are very well behaved (or we wouldn't have taken them). That said, there are fewer children at Jiko's.
I hope you get to enjoy both -- we did!!!!

A little late I guess--but do mkae it Jiko!! A perfect dinner spot for a honeymoon trip.
PS-Have you decided on any other restaurants yet????

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
Great Choice - Jikos.
one of our favorite spots (w/o kids). great wine, service, and food.
we highly reccomend the cucumber tomato red onion salad.
On our last trip we had the halibut and what a fish it was.
Are you staying at AKL? Concierge? then do the wanyama safari if it is offered on a day that you are there and a meal at Jikos is included.
Ok - now that I read your signature..... just go to Jikos for dinner and try the GF Cafe for breakfast or lunch one morning. :thumbsup2

Jiko is an excellent choice! If possible, ask to be seated by the window. Be sure to allow some time to wander around the AKL.

once again thanks everyone for your input, glad I can fit them both in!

These are two completely different experiences.

O'hana, mediocre food at best, ok atmosphere, been there done that wouldn't ever do it again.

Jiko, a fine dining experience, 2-3 hours, no rushing, great atmosphere, food, service, been there done that over and over again.

Your ADR's look great. We always eat at Jiko & Le Cellier so I am glad that you have them on your list. Have a great trip. :)

we haven't been to ohana but jiko is one of our favorite restaurants. it is on our "must do" list. so i think you've made the right choice.
