Help! Is anyone good with riddles?

Okay, I've just gotten this new book, and the author (who's an artist and a Tolkien lover) made up a riddle. I haven't been able to figure it out, and it's frustrating me! I'm pitiful with riddles, so even if it is painfully obvious, could you help me out?

Dug up from the earth and sealed in a coffin,
Sold for less than my true worth,
Hacked by sharp blades and dragged over a wide meadow,
Behind a pale charioteer,
Leaving, I hope, some evidence of the crime.

Now, shrunken in size,
Having lived life backwards,
My slow demise
Another's conception.
What am I?

cuz if you have ever read the book. He gets dead people "Dug up from the earth and sealed in a coffin" and then he cuts them up to get the perfect parts, to make the perfect person "Hacked by sharp blades and dragged over a wide meadow" and then he brings this "perfect" person to life, so in a way this person has lived life backwards..."Having lived life backwards" and when you take something apart and put it back together it gets smaller "Now, shrunken in size"

i dont know thats what I got out of it...

Thanks for the ideas, but I don't know if Alan Lee would write something about Frankenstien in a LOTR book. He doesn't really seem like that kind of person.

not doctor frankenstein. the monster he makes. and it does make sense, cuz LOTR from what I remember has to do with books kind of, and Frankenstein was a very good book. and shrunken in size makes sense like i said before, when you take something apart it shrinks, yes in the book he is huge, but the entire riddle doesn't need to make sense. I still think its the monster...
