morning all!

i need some advice on a disney matter, and i was pointed in your direction by the good folks at moneysavingexpert - i hope you can help!

next september/october, my grandmother is going to florida. she has been going to disney every other year for about 20-30 years, and absolutely loves it. it really brings out the child in her, which is wonderful to see.

gran is now in her 70s, and has the early stages of a degenerative disease. she is growing increasingly dependant on her wheelchair, as walking more than a few paces exhausts her. this has never been a major problem at disney, as they are always very accommodating.

because of her health and the criminal amount it has cost to insure her for the trip, it seems that this will be her very last time at disney, and so i want to do something to make it really special for her.

unfortunately, due to uni commitments, i wont be able to travel with her. she will be going with my aunt, who is her carer. as i have no idea what to get either of them for christmas, i thought it would be nice to arrange something for them, which they can then look forward to as an extra part of their holiday. so this will be their christmas present hopefully!

right, so what is it that im looking for..?

i have around £100 to spend, but as the pound is so strong against the dollar, i'd be happy to pay in dollars ($200 max) to get the most value for money.

as they are travelling with virgin, the holiday itself is taken care of - limo from the airport to the disney hotel, tickets to all the parks, character dining, tickets to dinner shows in the florida area. as the list probably shows, they are disney veterans, so finding something special to surprise them with is prooving to be hard work. they've done the swimming with dolphins thing too, so i really am stumped for ideas!

any ideas from you 'professionals' would be really greatfully received, as i would desperately love to make this special for them.

thanks,

britpop

What about a 'wishes cruise'?
You can share with other Dissers? You could always book a boat.. and then see if you can get other people from this Disboard to share it with your gran. It might be quite nice for her, when everyone on the boat will feel like they know her / you..
See link for info..

Not sure about wheelchair access.. but knowing Disney.. she'll be ok!!

Good luck.. and what a lovely idea!!

thats a nice idea, but i dont know what her 'sea legs' are like. will have to do some digging :thumbsup2

what does the wishes cruise entail?

What about Cirque du Soleil?

The Wishes cruise is basically a boat trip to see the firework display at Magic Kingdom where by you do not have to stand/exit the park with the crowds. Illuminations is a similar cruise to see the fireworks at Epcot. The details are on the home page of Disboards.

My family and I did the Wishes Cruise after my Disney wedding in 2004, it was the perfect ending to a perfect day, we paid a bit extra for the intercom to hear the live feed (music) and for snacks, the water although it moves is a lake so there is little water movement, and blankets are provided.

Another thought is a carriage ride through either Wilderness Lodge or Port Orleans resort which is lovely, we did it last year at WL and topped it off with a meal at Artist's Pointe.

I am sure no matter what she will have a wonderful time

Sharon

PS The other option is to book her on one of the special behind the scenes tours - there any many...and at all of the parks so you could pick her favourite and see whats available

How about paying for the photopass photos that you can buy and that way you wont have to pay for them until they come home - within 30 days.

Or surprise them with a cake from GF bakery to be presented to them at one of their meals.

I think you are really thoughtful to do such a lovely thing like this :thumbsup2
