Okay- So this is one of my many lifelong attempts at loosing weight. I am a 44 year old male, 6'0 tall and 250.8 lbs. In Sept 08 I weighted 229lbs and was very comfortable (I know still too heavy for my height). I have gained weight due to poor eating habits, that I have corrected (God I hope I do not fall off the wagon, again!!). Last Sunday I began my "diet" by cutting my calories down to between 1500 and 1800 per day which included veggies and salad. I also incorporated a 20-30 minute per day walk. In the past, I have been able to loose the weight by using these two methods.

I weighted myself on Tuesday, at that time I was 249lbs. I then weighted myself this morning, hoping for a pound or two reduction, and I weighted 250.8 lbs !!!!!!!!

What gives?? I have not cheated and I gained weight. Please help with any insight.

my first thought....give your metabolism time to adjust.

did you eat something salty the day before you weighed?

Keep on keeping on.......you are a smart guy, you are making healthy changes. the weight will come off and your experience backs that. i know it's hard, i'm there right now but keep working your plan ....you will see the results!!

How carefully are you tracking your calories? Are you weighing and measuring your portions? Are you keeping an accurate food journal? How many uncounted BLTNs (bites, licks, tastes, nibbles) might you be having in a day? Are you really walking hard, or just strolling?

These are all questions that came to mind when I saw your post. You might want to ask yourself these same questions. I'm not saying that weird weight fluctuations don't just happen... THEY DO!! I know that FOR SURE this week! But if it is a true weight gain, then you need to take another look at your plan, especially if this is your first week on this plan.

It's still early in the plan. You may want to energize your walk a bit. Perhaps a bit quicker during the time you are out there. Your calorie burn may not be as intense so changing up your walk speeds during your session may help.

Your body is adjusting and may be rebelling by trying to hold onto everything with those less calories you are fueling. Eventually you will prevail.

Do yourself a favor. Try to do this with the idea of fueling yourself and eliminate any reference to the "D" word or diet/deprivation or any negative thoughts. You are working for a change that will be permanent and should be proud of yourself for recognizing that now is the time.

You are moving during your walk times; try to continue moving through the day. Look for any extra movement you can find.

I'm really happy to hear that you are making it happen and I know it will happen for you!

If you are not hydrated, your body won't release the weight in fat you've lost no matter how good you've been about eating right and walking. The plan I'm on requires that I consume half my weight in ounces of water each day (by the way, any other beverage doesn't count towards fluid intake and if I have a coffee, I have to add that much more water.) My FIL, on Jenny Craig, has also been told he needs more fluids, as does my colleague down the hall on Weight Watchers.

If you're doing everything else right, but low on water intake, this may be the reason you're not losing. So try adding more water and if this doesn't work, get the to a doctor and get some blood work done to find out why your metabolism is slow. 90% of Americans are found to be vitamin D deficient and if you are low, it really slows down your metabolism among other issues.

You're doing good, you should see some reward.
