Hi All,

We are taking a 10 night Northern Europe cruise in August 2019 and are trying to book most excursions on our own due to it being soooo expensive to do the European excursions through Disney. I'm stuck on Fredericia -- there doesn't seem much to do in the town itself and the time ashore is short (7AM-3PM).
There are also virtually no tour companies that can pick up our party of 9 and take us to visit a site.

So I'm stuck and not sure how to move forward -- if we had to narrow down our choices, we would choose between a trip to Ribe to see the Viking attractions or Egeskov Castle. Has anyone visited those sites and used either public transportation or rented a vehicle and driven there? Was it ultra complicated? Any other suggestions or ideas on what to do locally?

Please help - any and all advice welcome!
Thank you!

Egeskov Castle was great! There are a few play areas for kids that are very cool. It was originally our plan to rent a car but we ended up getting a group together from our cruise and renting a bus. We were able to stop at Han Christian Anderson's home (we arrived too early for the HCA Museum though). It wasn't a long drive to the castle and I don't think it would be difficult to drive on your own.

Once we got back we had enough time to explore the town. The people were so warm. Our ship was among the first (if not the first) to visit Fredericia and a huge band came out to send us off when we left.

Hello Looking at this same cruise for 2021 What did you do in Fredericia?
Can you tell us the hi-lights of the cruise? Thanks!

Fredericia was one of the favorite stops for our kids last summer. If you don't have kids travelling with you, there are some charming sights around the area, such as the Egeskov Castle and the Koldinghus Castle. While they didn't last year, the port seems to be now running a shuttle tram from the town center to the port when a ship is visiting.

For kids, Fredericia is about 45 minutes' drive from Billund - the home of Lego. Yes, Lego the bricks. It all started from this town, which would now house two of the largest Lego attractions in the world: Lego Land and Lego House.

Lego Land is more like the Orlando amusement park themed after the bricks:

Lego House, for our kids, was the real treat. It's a massive Lego-building venue of creativity, where you will find some of the coolest Lego creations anywhere in the world:

Finally, across from Lego Land, you will find Lalandia, one of the largest water parks in Northern Europe:

We rented a car from Enterprise in Fredericia, and they delivered all their cars right in front of the ship. Same with our dropoff. Driving is really easy, as there is little population around that area.

Disney also offers excursions to most of these attractions. We ran into several other DCL families in Lego House.

I apologize for digging up an old-thread from the grave.
We're doing the "new/and not so improved" Northern Europe on the Magic on Aug 10th, so we'll be in Fredericia on the 16th.

I looked into your suggestion, but for some odd reason Enterprise only opens twice a week and the 16th is not one of the working days.
We're looking at renting a car at Avis/Budget in the center of town (10 min car ride).

For those who have been in Fredericia, are there cabs at the port? How easy would be to get a cab from the rental place back to port?

TIA

We didn't look for one, so I don't remember how many taxis there were - but there should be some. There are nearly 50K souls living in the town area.

IIRC, Enterprise closed only on weekends. Unless 16th is a local holiday?

We will cross each other in the Copenhagen terminal. We are embarking on the 17th.

Thanks.
I looked it up, found a number and an app. A cab to Avis/Budget should be around 220 DKK and then another back.
Weird with Enterprise, they only open one day that week.
Again, thanks
