I can't help but stress about the weather this week for our trip. We are leaving early Friday morning, and the weather keeps changing. We are leaving out of Philadelphia and they are calling for snow and ice now. We have never traveled in the winter and I am not too thrilled about flying. As long as we are going to Disney, I usually get over my fear, but the possibility of bad weather is making me nuts!!

What's worse is this is a surprise trip for DD's birthday, and we weren't going to tell her until the morning we leave. Now I don't know if we should tell her the night before or wait and see if the flight could be delayed. We are only going for four days, so I hope the weather is alright that morning. I would hate for our flight to be delayed.:(

I just can't seem to get excited about this trip. I'm so afraid that something is going to go wrong. Once we get there, I can relax and enjoy myself.

Please send pixie dust that everything will work out!

Thanks for listening.:)

I always have a pre-Disney freak out before my trip. It's normal. It is tough to travel from North to South this time of year, you just never know. I haven't heard anything about snow towards the end of the week, and that stuff changes on a daily basis. Try not to stress because there is nothing you can do to control the weather. Have fun!

:( Not so worried about leaving since we're in Kentucky, but accuweather is calling for rain for next Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Say it ain't so!!!! I know, put on the ponchos and go, and we will. But a little sunshine would be soooo much nicer. Rain, rain, go away! :sunny:

We also leave on Friday and I am watching the weather with interest. Right now they are just calling for rain here, but a day or so ago they were talking about snow for Thursday (which could mean Friday since they are often off by a day). I'm hoping everything will turn out ok and am trying not to worry too much. When it gets closer I'll pay more attention and try to get on an earlier flight if bad weather looks likely.

momx2 - don't let the weather forecasts ruin your anticipation of the trip. We live here in Florida and are leaving on our belated honeymoon on Tuesday. All last week they were predicting rain for several days this week. Now they're down to a 20% or 30% chance one night, or maybe one morning. AND - they said the temps would be in the 50's, now they're in the 70s! Pack so you can layer, and unlayer, and plan on just going with the flow . . .

The only thing you can count on with FL weather this time of year is that you can't count on it!!:smooth:

I know exactly how you feel! We are flying out Tuesday and will be leaving for the airport at 8am. They are calling for rain Monday evening, changing over to sleet and snow Monday night into Tuesday! UGH! I am so wired right now that I am almost useless. I just keep walking around the house looking at things--not actually DOING anything, mind you, just looking...maybe I need some Xanax...LOL

jcemom,

Hopefully you won't have any problems Tuesday morning. I'll send some pixe dust your way.:) We are staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge too.

I'm starting to feel a little better. I talked to DH, and he said that if we have to get a later flight because of bad weather, we will stay an extra day at Disney to make up for it. So, no matter what, we will get a full four days there.:D

Hopefully it won't come to that.

Thanks

We will be there at the same time then! I'll have my lime green button on my backpack and a big lime green bow on DD's stroller...say hi if you see us!

jcemom,

I'll be wearing my lime green fanny pack.

Hopefully we will have nice weather while we are down there. My DD loves to swim. Just getting to go swimming would be the perfect birthday present!

See ya there!!!:wave2:

The flight may be delayed but they fly pretty much on schedule with winter weather. If it is really bad there may be delays. Also be aware if you change your return time the airlines will charge a change fee.

Thanks safetymom! I must admit, though, I'm more concerned with getting to the airport *safely* than anything at this point (not that I'm NOT concerned with getting to WDW, we have 10 days so a couple of hours delayed isn't as big a deal to us). We are a good two hour drive from the airport, and driving two hours in sleet and snow doesn't appeal much to me. You'd think I'd be used to it living where I do, but I still don't like it! :teeth:

Why not stay at a hotel near the airport jcemom? Are you flying out of PIT? I just moved to Orlando from Pgh. That airport is very good about flying during bad weather. Usually if there is a delay it is because of problems somewhere else in the US.

I had a reservation near the airport for tonight, but cancelled it because DH thinks this trip is already too long and did not want to add another night away from home!

My dad is driving us to the airport in the morning. He works in Greentree and makes the commute every day, so he assures us that he can drive in anything as he has been doing it for years. Of course, I worry anyway. ;)

It is nice to hear that PIT is good as far as delays are concerned, though. It's been 12 years since I've been on a plane. DH and I were newlyweds then. Now we are bringing along three children and I am a bit nervous. Hoping they don't act up and that DD doesn't have any ear problems. I will be even more useless today than I was yesterday!

If you are travelling the Parkway you won't have any troubles. They keep those roads in great shape.

I flew out of PIT several times a month through all kinds of weather. You will be fine. Just allow some extra time to get there so you aren't stressing about the delays.
