Help! I Was Scammed!

Last night I was in the new Fantasyland ride area helping some players with the new quest. A player on my friend list kept asking me to come play falling chairs in his friends room. I finally went. When i lost a round he told the host he would pay for me to continue. I was never asked to pay or boot and never asked anyone to pay for me. Later i got booted. About 20 minutes later he found me again and said he had given lots of rare to keep me in game. He said he gave Cowboy costume, Super Hero Costume, Black Ears and more. I was shocked! I told him he shouldn't have done that. He said he really missed his stuff and i felt bad so I gave him my Super Hero, black ears, mansion hat, jafar hat and furniture. Just as I finished the trade the room owner came in to the room and asked me to trade. I accepted and she told me that he was really her brother and that he didn't pay her anything and he had stolen my stuff!! I just couldn't believe what had happened. I am just sick about this. The superhero was the only costume I had. And i got everything honestly by winning quests. Now everything is gone! Please help! I reported but I don't know what else I can do.

That's a hard one especially since you accepted the trade.
Sorry you were ripped off :(

Call me hard-hearted, but that's why I don't give people anything when
they confront me with some sob story. If I had been in your situation,
I would have told the boy that I didn't ask for him to pay for me, therefore
I'm not responsible for his actions. It would be a matter between him and
his friend who hosted the game.

So if he lost his stuff, it's a lesson to him. But by giving him your stuff,
you basically gave him permission to take your stuff.

So in your case, it's now become a lesson for you not to trust anyone who
asks you to pay to play a game. I never go to rooms with Falling Chairs,
Cute or Boot, or "Free" stuff giveaways because they are usually not run
fairly.

Yes it is a hard lesson. I feel like someone just kicked me in the stomach. It is a shame we cannot trust fellow players. Very sad. Are there so few of us that are honest and fair? I can't even bear to log in today...

I'm sorry that happened to you. I too ignore the sob stories. When I was more new though, if it hadn't been for stories I read here, I probably would've done the same thing because I am much more trusting in real life.

I hope things start to look up for you, but I do suggest you edit your original post to delete the names of the people involved. The DIS doesn't allow naming people in stories like this.

:grouphug: to you!

Thanks for that information. I edited my post. Sorry I am new and did not know about the name thing.

Call me an evil ol' Pirate with a black heart, but seriously: you don't go about playing the Falling Chairs where you have to PAY. Trust me, you WILL get jipped: it's just what comes with the territory. I had my extra Fourth of July Hat stolen during one of these games. Hard lesson to learn, but I learned it.

And when it comes to sob stories: don't listen to them. If you are likely to give in and let your heart bleed for them, then you deserve what you got. It's a horrible lesson to learn, but I hope this experience taught you.

As for the Super Hero Outfit: was it green? If so, I have an extra laying around (Pirate doesn't look good in tights).

Sorry about what happened but atleast the sister was honest?

Yes I feel sorry for her too. Apparently he is using her to scam people by luring them to her game room. I imagine if he keeps it up they will both be reported and banned. She will just be another victim. Too bad she has such a dishonest brother.

I have a feeling that the "sister" is someone in on the scam, rather
than an honest player. And frankly, because you can play multiple characters
in more than one window, you might actually be dealing with one player
messing with your head.

(Yes, I'm that cynical!) But for all those players searching for opportunities
to scam others, there are lots of nice players out there who aren't.

I too am sorry you lost your items. I hope you learned a lesson from it and will be wiser next time.

That said being so new to the DIS maybe you should wait a while to others get to know you before asking for donations it makes others think that maybe your story is not all it is cracked up to be.

Welcome to the DIS and I am sure we all look forward to getting to know you better...

I offered, Mal. But you do raise a valid point... they do indeed come to the Dis.

Thank you for all your advice and thoughts. I will definately be more cautious from now on. The really sad part is that I always try to help people any way i can, both in real life and VMK. I have spent countless hours helping people find hidden mickeys, and find there way through the Big Thunder Mountain mines and helping them in quests and mini games. I have given away many items, many rare to other players. I have spent the last 18 months trying to make repairs to my 76 year old fathers property that was almost destroyed by hurricane Rita and his insurance wouldn't pay and do not expect anything for it. Please I did not mean to ask for anything but advice and a shoulder to cry on. On the contrary I would be glad to help someone if I have something they need.

You have to ask yourself, why would anyone pay even 1 rare to stay in a free game?

True enough. I guess i was so shocked by what he told me, I just thought it had to be true and I have only ever been in a falling chairs game once before...I will stay clear of those games. Like my dad says " what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" and in my case hopefully wiser!

It definitely stinks when you realize you've been taken for a ride. Not the same situation, but I gave a crown away once to a girl who claimed to have no rare items to trade for one and said she'd wanted one for months (this was before Halloween), and so I gave her my only spare. Day later I see her walking around with bat magics (again, this was before Halloween), a Grand Californian pin, and a princess hat. I was mad at the time, but I just left and went to another room. It's a shame everyone is not honest, but some people are more interested in handouts than hard work. :sad2:

My advice would also be to skip the cute or boot games or cafes as well; I've never frequented them, but I've had a lot of people try to get me to 'drop in'. Did drop in once thinking my 'friend' wanted to talk, and she immediately demanded I give her rare items as payment for entering her cafe. If we could say "Heck no!" in VMK, that's what I would've said. :rotfl2:

Sorry again for your virtual loss.

Yes it is sad that people can be so greedy and dishonest. It just feels so odd to me to have to be suspicious of everyone... I have always given people the benefit of the doubt, but I guess things are vastly different in the virtual world........

You have to ask yourself, why would anyone pay even 1 rare to stay in a free game?

Actually, I've seen people pay out semi-rare and rare items for games while being lured to it by promises of winning something much more rare such as beta, Stitch and Sparrow.

Sorry to hear that you've been scammed. I've been diligent enough since I've started playing to not get scammed. At least, I don't think I have. :)
