I feel like an idiot. I am turning 50 in a few months:scared1: and talked DH into taking a Disney cruise with just the 2 of us. It sort of came about on a whim when I found out we had lots of DVC points that needed to be used. Well, one thing led to another and before you know it I was on the phone with DVC booking a cruise. After I hung up with them I looked at all the itineraries (something I should have done prior, I know:blush: ) and think I might want to do the Western cruise instead.:confused3 Right now I have the Eastern with Tortola but I'm so torn. We've done a cruise with the kids in 2001 with the eastern itinerary. I can change it, but it would cost $95 for the privilege plus it would be less points which means I would have to use those points by the end of Aug. (which I wouldn't be able to) or lose them. Is it worth it? Any suggestions?

I don't know, I much prefer the ports of the Eastern. I have done both. But, if you would really feel like changing the $95 does not seem to bad.

2001 was a long time ago, and the Magic didn't go to Tortola then. Enjoy the eastern cruise and the extra day at sea, and perhaps book the western for a future cruise.

We prefer the Eastern because the ports are so pretty and we love the extra sea day. :) Also, you have booked a special itinerary. You can always do a regular western later. ;)

Are you booked on the September one? If so, KEEP IT....THERE'S A LOT OF GREAT PEOPLE ON THAT CRUISE....LIKE ME!

.

P.S. And quite a large group of adults right in your (new) age group.:thumbsup2

Any particular reasons why you prefer them?

No, we're going on the July 18th one. You guys are making me feel better about it, though.:)

I was hoping you'd be on the June 20th one...that's when we're going, and I am turning 50 in August, so I'm sure we'd become fast friends! (my son likes the dancing banana and asked me to put it in)

I personally prefer the eastern to the western. I liked Grand Cayman and Stingray City, but was less than impressed with Cozumel. It was dingy. And while I enjoyed Key West, we can fly there and do that any time.

I'm looking forward to a new port in the eastern Caribbean. I find the brighter colors and the lyrical voices of the island residents so charming. I can't wait for two days on the ship as well. We had that when we did the California cruise, and found so much to do that we couldn't do it all.

Don't second guess yourself too much. I imagine ya'll will have fun no matter which itinerary you choose.

I prefer the Eastern too. It just seems to me that the ports seems cleaner and safer. While the problem with Grand Cayman might have been that they were still cleaning up from a hurricane a couple of years ago, I just got the feeling that I probably wouldn't get off the ship again in Cozumel unless I booked an excursion through Disney. I just felt uneasy being on my own there for some reason.

What are you hoping to do in the ports (no matter which itinerary you do)? People might be able to point out the features of each to help ease your mind about your decision if we knew what you'd like to do on the islands. :)

I also prefer the Eastern. Love the extra sea day, and the ports of call just are more interesting to us. I would love to do Tortola, sounds nice.

It is mainly for the image of the ports when we are on the ship and walking around. People are friendly, souveniers are less expensive, the pictures of the port are prettier. As someone said the ports are cleaner. We were not impressed by Grand Cayman at all when we were there in 2004. Yes, they were recovering from a hurricane but the main road bordering the water had been torn up for months before that and there was plywood over open holes in the sidewalk on the one side of the street that we had to use with a stroller. I am looking forward to exploring St. Maarten more on our WB TA in 2010 since it has been since 2005 since we have been there.

We are going on the Eastern again in May. This will be our 3rd time. I love the Eastern much more than the Western. I love the extra sea day also. It is like a "Snow Day," nothing planned and not much expected.

The Eastern is also much prettier than the Western. Also, Disney does not go to Tortola that often.

Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy and don't worry!:dance3:

Thanks so much for all the positive feedback. I just discussed it with DH and he says he's just happy to be going--doesn't matter where and I guess he's right.:thumbsup2

I've done an Eastern before and loved it, and just did the Magic Western over New Year's Eve -- and loved it! Don't worry -- you will have a great time.:thumbsup2
