My SO plays guitar out three nights a week, whichs means I am home by myself those nights from about 8:30 pm till bedtime.

I am bored with cross-stitch, crocheting. I've tried scrapbooking, but quite frankly, I just can't get into it.

Any other suggestions for hobbies I can take up?

I write (well, not for a long time but I love it)...I do other arts and crafts. I love to read.

what other types of arts and crafts?

I read every night before bed so I don't really consider that a hobby. For me, reading is a must.

I'm looking for something "creative" I can do.

I was going to suggest reading, too. If I'm not scrapping (or online), I've got my nose buried in a book!!

Have you tried beading? It can be a lot of fun, mixing and matching colors and bead types. They make great gifts for Christmas also and it really isn't that expensive if you buy your beads kind of in bulk.

well, I like to make wreaths...and I'm making christmas centerpieces.

How about drawing??? I'm not good at it, but I enjoy it and find that I get better, the more I do it.

Do you have a stencil store near you? They have lots of great one day craft ideas and classes. Michael's and AC Moore has them too. Plus it is fun to get together with other people!
Stenciling on wood is fun! I love to stencil on Slate! Great Christmas gifts!

Just thought of something... how about stamping? I was really into that before I found scrapping!!

Lots of great suggestions! Keep em coming!

I thought about classes, but he doesn't leave until 8:30 or 9, which means I'm home until then, so it would be hard to take a class that late at night.

Last Christmas I made sets of "wine charms" for gifts. (you know the little charms to hang around the necks of glasses so folks will know whose glass is whose at the party?) They were fun to do. We made up a really cute card on the computer with a holiday themed bottle on it that said "Hope your Holidays are Bubbling with Cheer" They made great gifts with a bottle of wine. I used holiday colored beads and even found mini Christmas light beads to put on there.

Also I like to make those layered cookie and brownie mixes in a jar...

I've been canning a lot lately (which I guess really isn't crafting but it's been fun to make something from scratch!)

My DD has had a blast this summer with "perler beads" we visited their website and they have some really intricate designs (a lot done by adults too) www.perlerbeads.com

HTH! I'm mostly a scrapbooker and baker myself (and reading whenever I can squeeze it in)

Ok. Here's one for you to try. I spent Christmas Day on the Gettysburg Battlefield taking photos of the monuments while it was snowing, took them home(the photos, not the monuments!) and printed them on transparency paper. Get the clear glass ornaments , figure the size circle you need ( this is a little trickey - you have to keep adjusting till you get it right but after that it's smooth sailing) and cut the photos to the circle size. Roll them into a small tight cylinder and stuff them into the ornament and "sproing"! they unfold and fill the ornament. Use tweezers to wiggle them into the right position and put the top on and tie a ribbon to the loop ( I used blue or gray depending on whose side it was) and presto! A nifty tree decoration. I did some of my nephew's wedding photos, old photos of family and some snow shots of an old covered bridge near me, my neighbor's barn at daybreak in the snow, my cat, my wolf, my dog, my horses, you name it. I did one of Ulysses S Grant's great-great grandson in his re-enactment uniform. The images are slightly transparent and look slightly "ghosty" but they are super. This year one of the street artists in town is going to sell them for me. They also make super Christmas gifts.
I also started handpainting ornaments to look like the old Polish ornaments that cost so darned much, but with a slightly different twist. I'm doing them with a Southern Appalachian theme. Get the pearlized ornaments and metallic spray paint and spray a base color on them. You can do flowers, scenes, folk art, anything you want and no two are alike. Give it a try and have fun.

How about card making? Or is that too close to scrapbooking for you? At least you probably have alot of the supplies already....you can add stamping to it.....or use the computer...or any other the tons of other techniques available.

And you can always use cards. I gave up other crafts because.... well frankly, just how many cross stitches or wall decorations does one person need? LOL

And each card (or set of 4) could be a mini one night project. They make nice gifts too.

Thanks again. I used to do alot of baking but when I hit 172 lbs I kind of had to quit as I was eating it all too LOL.

I love the ornament ideas! And I have the stuff to make the wine charms.

Thanks gals!

I totally agree...LOL..when I bake something I either bake something I don't like so I won't be tempted or send it to work with DH or give it to my nephew! I love the idea about the ornaments Walk On the Wind...I have seen that technique done on tv and they turn out very nice!
