OK, I called my guide (Byron) pretty late today around 6pm or so and I am going to firm up my point sizes and home resort and use year tomorrow

So I need all your help on this one more time (hurray...they have finally decided to buy into DVC - it's about time :o )

We can afford around 275-350 points

Choice of home resort as BCV or VWL
Choice of add on at BWV or VWL or BCV
(want WDW as master/add on)

Use years - December/Feb (not VWL though)/March
MB applicable

Do I put all the points at one resort (the one I most want to stay at) and then 7 month swap where possible

Do I split the points between 2 of the three (being the two we most want to stay at)

I am thinking as my kids get older they would want BCV or BWV while myself and DW lean towards VWL for the more getting away from it feeling

Would it be difficult to swap into VWL early March and/or late August (our prime times) for the occassional year if we want to stay there

I guess it would be harder to switch into BCV due to SAB and location?

With March and August prime vacation times for us should I get two use year contracts or just stack into one month and either way which are the best choices? I intend to use the MB $10 back rebate....

Thanks

Are you wiling to "administer" your points. for example bank your points at one resort while borrowing from the other. This way you could always have sufficient points at each resort if you split your ownership?

e.g. if you have 150 at BCV and 150 at VWL....you would then have 300 points each year at one of the two.

I guess I'm a bit lazy...we just have all our points at BWV :)

Although I am not positive, my thought has always been that VWL may be the toughest at the 7 month window only because there are so few units to be had. That's just a guess though. If you really want VWL, I'd get at least some points there. If you get them all there, you'ld likely have a pretty good shot at getting either BCV or BWV at the 7 month window, as long as you're not picky.

With 300 points though (we have 322) my thought overall is to get them at one place. Wait for your next big add on ;) to get another resort.

In any event, congrats on the decision to buy!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc

As a BCV owner I'm kind of partial, it all depends on where you think you would like to stay the most and you'll get the most out of the 11 month booking window. Ihave only stayed at the BCV twice so far, but I am looking forward to trying out all the resorts in time.

Whatever you decide it must be right for you and the way you plan to use it. It's pretty hard to make a mistake at any of them.

Enjoy whatever you decide!

I am sure you will get a lot of different responses to this post, but here is my opinion. We originally purchased in 1998 at BWV (March use year). Then we added on in 2000 & 2003 at BWV (March use year). We believe for us it is easier to keep all of our points at one place with the same use year. It makes for less confusion. Now there are DVC owners who have contracts at several different resorts with different use years and they may feel differently about this.

One problem with splitting the points. Say you have half at BWV and the other half at BCV. You want to go to BCV and it costs more points than you have there. You would still have to wait until the 7months time frame to add the extra days on to BCV with your points from BWV. But, if you had all your points at BWV, you could go ahead and make the whole reservation at the 11 month window and then try to switch at the 7 month window. At least you would have all the days you wanted at one resort. The other option is to move in the middle of your vacation, but this is to much trouble for us.

I know this is not true all the time, but I have made 2 reservations at VWL on short notice. In March 2002 I made a reservation for a 1 bedroom for 2 nights in June, and in Jan 2003 I made a reservation for a 1 bedroom in March.

Okay, I hope I haven't made this to confusing. Like I said, I am sure you will get different opinions but we just like everything in one place. We make our reservation at 11 months and then if we want to change we try to do that at 7 months.

I agree with LNaylor863 100% I have better things to do than try to manage my points for when and where I can stay at any given time.

I believe in the KISS approach.

I purchased 270 points last September at BCV. I wish I had purchased 300 points with two contracts at 150 each. I have 2 children and I think it would be easier to "will" one contract to each of them. Also, if for some reason I needed to sell some points, I could sell one of the contracts.

I definitely would have both contracts in the same use year because it would be too much work for me to try and keep that straight. As for whether it should be the same resort or different, that depends on when you normally travel, what type of unit and how long you typically stay. You want to be sure you have enough points at one place to meet those requirements at the 11 month window. Unless it's premier season though, you can probably get reservations at any of the resorts at the 7 month window.

Good Luck with your decision. I wish I could buy more. Maybe my add on will be another 270 points someday.
