Help--I have a SW lower fare question!

I booked a May trip on SW, and now I see that the return flight has a DING fare for $10 cheaper.

Can I call them and get the cheaper fare? I'm clueless about this, so any advice is appreciated!!

Thanks!

Why yes you can! If you call, they are usually very good about talking you through it. They usually credit the money for another airfare, but I have seen discussions about getting the money credited to your credit card upon request. Since we are always planning to go back to Disney, we usually just take the credit toward another trip.

Well that's interesting, because I ended up calling to find out and the agent I got said I would have to cancel the existing ressie and then rebook using the Ding fare (which would mean taking a chance on the Ding fare still being available).

I went online and it looked like I could still get the Ding fare, but since it was only for the return trip, I was worried I'd mess up the outgoing trip somehow, and the $10 difference just wasn't worth the risk to me.

So, that leads me to another question: Would I be better next time I book on Southwest to book two one-way flight separately, so that I would have two confirmation numbers and then if I saw a lower fare just on one leg, I could rebook that and leave the other ressie alone??

I'll figure it out someday. I was so excited a few weeks ago to get the $49 internet fares that I didn't really think the whole thing through!!

Thanks!

i have found that booking two one way fares are easier.Much easier to cancel one leg than the whole thing because it does sometimes effect the other leg of your trip. They will credit your credit card the difference if it's the Same flight number time etc.All ahs to be exactly the same other than the price.if you choose a different flight which is cheaper and different time etc you will recieve SW credit. Hope this makes since.

Getting lower Ding! Fares 101

First off book your original fare as one-way tickets.

Religiously watch for Dings!

If a Ding! comes up that gives you a better fare, go through the entire booking process "except" for hitting the purchase button.

Open another window and cancel the leg that is going to be lowered by the Ding! fare.

Then, within a few seconds your credit should appear in your account.

Use that credit to purchase the new Ding! fare.

If you changed flights, dates, then you have a SW credit good for a year from original date of purchase.

If you did not change flights or dates, then call SW customer service to have the credit returned to your credit/debit card.

Repeat for each passenger and leg of your trip as necessary.

You can call for a ding? I thought they had to be done online. Or do you mean they will walk you through how to do it online?

I've been waiting for a ding for April 21-27, I booked 2 one ways. My outbound flight did come up today but for May 1 to 31! The only one available for my date was an evening, I don't want to go that late.

That is what happened to me.....our return flight isn't available and we really like the time, so no savings for us....will book one way travel next time - You learn something new everyday!!:)

Has anyone here gotten credit on cc? I know we will not go to Dis before this time next year, we are planning a trip for Dec of 08

Yes!! You can only get a credit on your cc if you don't change the date or time of your flight. Just go to the travel center and click change air reservation. Keep it the same but snag the lower fare. Also you can call when it's getting close to the time your credits will expire and they will give you a 6 mo. extension. This may help but definitely go for the refund if you can. :goodvibes
