Help! I have a pot problem!

Flower pot, that is. Sorry--couldn't resist!
My school is having a carnival and each class is decorating a flower pot for the silent auction. My kids want to turn our pot into a guinea pig in tribute to our class pet, Furball.
Any ideas on how to make that happen?

Cover with brown pom poms. Add construction paper ears etc.

I think it's a ten inch geranium pot.
I would love any ideas...just painting on the face of a guinea pig seems so flat. I know I can use felt or fun foam for the ears, but I would love a suggestion to make it more 3-D.

what about covering the pot w/ felt and using it as a body...then get a strofoarm ball as the head...make sure to put something that is a cone shape for the nose...and you could get them cute little wiggly eyes... you could use some felt for the ears w/ a little peice of pink inside...and maybe some yarn a light tan color for a tail...don't know if you are trying the full body or not. Are you? Or just a face?
