Great, just got sick. And into single digits. Will this keep us off the ship? Staying quarranteened from traveling partners. BUT hopefully will be better or gone by then. Has this happened to anyone else? We did take the travel Ins. with Disney. We are also going to WDW before and after (on our own). We still have about 11 days to go till cruise.

I'd get some Zicam or some Airborne and start on it asap! They generally work better if you use it at the first sign of a cold but it can't hurt! Also lots of water, vit C and rest!!! Chicken Noodle Soup has been said to be a great cold help as well!! Good luck! When we went last May my dd had a pretty nasty cold the day we left, got better at WDW and then we all got sick from someone sick on the ship!

Hope you get feeling better!

If it is just a cold I think you'd be fine. I honestly don't know the specific rules but I would think they would be more concerned about flu symptoms and being "sick sick" ie don't want to get out of bed, fever, etc. On our 3rd cruise my daughter was amost 6 and she had a bad cold when we drove to FL a few days before the cruise. Then the day before we left she awoke with a fever and what I thought was probably an ear infection. So we found a doc in FL that would see her, got her on antibiotics and she was fine. But she wasn't really acting sick. Just having a typical ear infection and runny nose. I didn't even say anything 24 hours later whengetting on the ship---she looked fine, felt fine at that point, and I knew she was no longer contagious. Plus, so no one flames me here---she NEVER goes into the Club. Doesn't like it--Momma's girl--so I didn't have to worry that she was infecting someone else's kid in there. She loves to swim and our last cruise in October she ended up getting swimmer's ear infection one night during our 4 night. I gave her Motrin and then next morning she was fine.

You could call DCL to be sure of the rules. I don't think I would not sail because of a cold unless it turned into something else. I would rest, takes lots of immune building vitamins/minerals/herbs and go have fun!
Hope it all works out and you enjoy your trip.

Nyquil.... every night, til the cold is gone!!!!!! 11 days... thats MORE than enough time to get rid of a cold!!

I don't think a cold would keep you off the ship. When we checked in two weeks ago, they asked us if anyone in our party had had diarrhea, fever, or vomiting in the last 72 hours. My husband was getting over bronchitis (on meds), and he was fine to board.

you could try some day quil or some night quil.

Get Zicam and start it asap, will lesson the length of the cold. You know thats an interesting question though...

I always have a runny nose and congestion, but its not a cold. I have allergies and asthma. (meds for both travel with) I seem to be better when the weather is warmer so here's hoping Florida will do me some good ;) And at least I won't be miserable from flying this trip either :)

The only thing that would keep me off the cruise would be if I the flu or a GI bug. I wouldn't want to pass that on to anyone else. I can't really see disney keeping you from cruising for a cold. Especially when any number of passagers could be sick but yet to show symptoms before boarding

Get the Zicam cold nasal spray and they have a throat spray if you have a cough. It works for me!

Hope you feel better soon so you can really enjoy your voyage.

I swear by Zicam. If you take it right away your cold will be totally gone in 4 days. Since I discovered it I have not been sick longer than 4 days - it really works!

I have a better way to look at it ( ;) I think if you're sick now you know you'll have it behind you when your trip comes. I remember getting a nasty headcold two weeks before our last trip and I almost cheered! It had been a year since I'd gotten anything, and I knew I was due! I agree with the Zycam posts - it works great. Before you go, try Airborne (they have a website but your pharmacy will be quicker) and take that for a few days before you go so you don't pick up any secondary infections. I swear by the stuff! Ditto on the Zicam. I tell everyone I know about it. Zicam, Dayquil and Vitamin C and you should be all set. Another thing I have tried is Lysine - a friend at work recommended it. Not sure what actually helped in the end, but I was better in 3 days!

I agree! We just recently discovered Airborne (after Oprah raved about it on her show) and no one in my family has had a bad cold since. On our last cruise one of my DDs and my DH started with a cold, but the Airborne took care of it. My other DD and I took it and we didn't get it at all.

I buy it at Walmart (but often they are out). Walgreens is a little more expensive, but they usually have it. Here is their website so you can see what it looks like:

It's so hard to avoid getting sick when you are running around before a trip!

We are leaving in 3 days and 3 of us are still fighting a severe sore throat (feels like strep but isn't). Yesterday I got pink eye (get it when my immune system is shot). My daughter's best friend threw up in school on Friday. My brothers kids have been throwing up and had a birthday party for my Dad yesterday where his brother and wife came so sick that my Uncle went and slept in my brother's bed the whole time. Sickness is everywhere!!!!

I haven't kissed my husband for a week and have avoided all physical contact with anyone in my family who hasn't been sick yet. Every where we go we wash our hands or I pull out the hand sanitzer.

I think I am being a little paranoid however we have spent so much on this trip we want to enjoy it! Now we have another snowstorm! I just keep thinking about the warmth of Florida and the sea air! Get me through the next 3 days!!!!!

Do you only take Airborne when you feel like you're coming down with something? Do you take it daily? Do you take it only when you are getting ready to travel?

DH and I recently took it when we were flying to Florida (not Disney). We took it the day we left and the day we returned (the days we were flying/in airports). But I wondered if that is the most effective way to use it, or if we should have taken it the entire time we were traveling, or a few days before we were flying..

Thanks for any suggestions.

What I did was take it twice a day (once in the morning and in the evening) starting the day before our cruise and all through the cruise.

Since my DH and DD actually had signs of a cold (not real bad, but sore throat and a stuffy nose), they took it 4 times a day for a couple of days until they felt better and then they took it twice a day.

I don't take it on a regular basis, just if someone in the family starts getting the signs of a cold (or if I get the signs of a cold) OR if I am about to go on vacation.

Dumb Question but...
Is it a chewable? I looked at the website and they looked like pretty big tablets!

That's the one reason DH hates flying, and movie theatres, he's afraid of the germies!!!
Dont blame him!!! :goodvibes

No, you don't chew them. You put them in water and they bubble up (like Alka Seltzer) and then drink it.

Thats interesting!!! Maybe DD 7 will go for it!!!
I'll tell her its a Harry Potter Potion!!!

:rotfl:
thanx

It doesn't taste bad at all -- kind of like weak-flavored Tang (orange-y).
