Help! I can't decide! Which vacation option would you choose? update page 3, dec 1st

I don't think I would be able to tolerate driving down, knowing that I could be in Disney already, but I am impatient! I would choose #2 for a few reasons, you said that you would be using the trailer all summer, so you might be over it by your trip and ready for something a little more 'turn key'. However, this could be coming from the fact that we have spent the past week towing a boat around, and although the time on the boat has been fun, I am ready for something a little less 'involved' for my next vacation, so I could just be projecting here. Does Bonnet Creek have shuttles? It may not be ideal, but if the kids aren't ready to go by the time you are, could they just take the shuttle?

I know you said you went to Bonnet Creek for the extra room but you also said that would hinder the kids ability to come and go more freely. Why not look into 2 value rooms just for this trip. I can't see that being anymore cramped than a travel trailer would be. If that isn't an option I would choose option 2. If it were me I'd choose Christmas over Halloween anyway. I think it's a little more magical.
I do not agree with others saying to ditch the boyfriend. We've done Disney as well as other vacations with my oldest son's girlfriend when they were those ages. They were some of the best vacations we've had.

Just curious why you think the boyfriend would need a separate bathroom??? Doesn't make any sense to me at all.
Why a separate bathroom? Sharing a bathroom with any teenage boy would be an issue for me, let alone a kid that wasn't mine. Maybe I'm pickier than most, but I like privacy, room for my own stuff, not worrying about leaving my underwear around by mistake, getting up in middle of night in a nightgown. etc. I suppose I'm reacting more to bringing a boyfriend For a young girl along on a trip. Obviously it works for most. I'm not a prude or an an old fussy woman but I don't think that a teenag girl should have a boy along. A family trip is just that..,for family. And it's hard enough to keep boys and girls from making out home. Sharing a small space...just seems like it opens up a whole can of worms. But that's not the purpose of this forum. So it's none of business and sorry for bringing it up. But i would choose option 2.

I wouldn't even consider staying offsite with my teens for two reasons. First, Disney transportation lets them have a lot more independence and freedom to keep to their own schedules than the less frequent shuttles from the offsite hotels. And second, evening EMH are awesome with older kids who want to sleep in and stay up late.

I guess I can understand a little about the sharing. I guess having 2 boys myself I don't have any issue sharing with boys, whether my own or their friends. We took many vacations with my oldest sons girlfriend along and never had any issues. As for the trips being "family", well family is what you make of it. My sons girlfriend was considered part of our family and even though they are no longer together I still consider her family. I don't really see the issue with keeping them from making out either, I mean boys and girls are going to kiss no matter what you do to try and stop it. Actually I have seen more negative come from parents trying to stop it, with kids sneaking out. I would think the chances for anything sexual to happen would be much greater at home where kids know places to sneak off to, or knowing when parents won't be home. Seems to me that being in a smaller space with parents there would deter that from happening. We just have differing opinions on that which is fine. Thank you for clarifying the bathroom comment for me.

I can understand and respect your opinion on that. At home we have three bathrooms. The kids have there own bathroom and between the theee of them and all their friends that come over I avoid the kid bathroom at all costs other then to clean it twice weekly and yuck! However when we all share one I make sure to keep it very clean all the time and sharing with every one is no big deal then. As my kids have gotten older the make up of the family trip changes. Sometimes it includes just the two younger get kids, sometimes just one parent, sometimes a friend or boyfriend ect. They are all great trips regardless of the particular participants.

OP here with an update. We made our final decision and it ended up being a combination and compromise of the two options. We are going Halloween week but will be flying and staying in a condo at Bonnett Creek. Only my youngest daughter was upset about not taking the trailer and staying at Fort Wilderness but I told her we could still go there and see the Fort on Halloween and go trick or treating there. I really want to the Disney at Christmas but maybe next trip. The kids really want to do Haunted Nights at Universal one night so that is the plan. Now that we have a final plan on that we can soon start planning the details.
