These are two hotels with a strong following. I do not think you can go wrong with either.

I am one of the Candy Cane fans. It is close, but if you get too tired to walk, it has the most reliable bus service of all the motels. The staff is over the top helpful and the rooms are very comfy. Their morning breakfast is nce.

The pool is tiny, so if your vacation revolves around a pool, this is not your motel. It has AAA discounts, but none of the super great deals that other places get.

If price is a factor...
You could possibly get the Entertainment Card rate for HoJo's,
I just reserved for May 13 to 18th for $45 a night - just need to present card at check in.
If you don't have a card .. the web site does have a sale going on $10 off and free shipping
http://www.entertainment.com

I manged to trade with someone who had an extra card as I would not need a book. Other options is to check on Ebay to see if you can buy a book under cost. Any area book will work for the rate and you don't need it when making reservations.

Both Hotels are take a similar amount of time to walk from, about 7 minutes to the front gates. HoJo's used the ART shuttle which is $2 a day per adult and makes stops at other hotels. Candy Cane Inn has their own shuttle which only stops at their place.
The Candy Cane Inn is a two story motel with exterior corridors. The motel is U shaped with the parkinglot in the U area. The rooms are decent size but not big. They are decorated very nicely accebting the slight New Orleans architecture outside. The smallish pool is located in the center of the lot surrounded by trees and bushes. There is some pretty landscaping here. There is a good free breakfast.
The HoJo is a 6 building complex and each building has interior corridors and most rooms have a balconey. The rooms are nice size and comfortable. The room decore is fine though a bit bland. Some of the rooms have views of Disneyland, the monorail and the fireworks. The grounds are filled with trees and landscaping. There are two nice sized pools here and a small kiddie water area. One pool is back amongst the pine trees and seems very relaxing. There is no free breakfast.
I love the Candy Cane but it is usually more expensive (but the free breakfast is good) I really like having a balconey at the HoJo though and the room is more spacious. Both are fine places to stay at for a trip to Disneyland.
