HELP! - Hubby wants to use pts elsewhere - WHERE??

Hubby decided that since we've been to WDW twice this year that next year we should try something else. After pouring over the guidebook, I am clueless! I need advice. We have 3 children ages 9, 8 and 2 (all girls). I'd love Hawaii but not sure if the 2 year old could do the long plane ride. Any suggestions, pointers? Will I be disappointed with anything other than WDW? HELP!

What do you enjoy doing on vacation? Shopping, hiking, amusement parks? Beach, mountains? Summer vacation or some other time of year? If you have an idea of what you might enjoy, that might help narrow down some of the options. Is there anything you'd really like to see? The Southwest? Grand Canyon?, etc.

When can you travel and what do you like to do, besides WDW. How about HH either a Marriott or DVC there. VB is a great option as well. Also consider places like Trapp Family Lodge or Manor Club in Williamsburg. HI, MX or the Caribbean would be great but a big cost with air fare plus the ages of the children don't fit that type of trip. Beach Marriott's are hard to beat any time of the year. Ski locations either summer or Winter. Disney in Paris also comes to mind. Then comes the question of wether using your points for the optionis reasonable. If you can give more info, we'd be happy to take this further. Good luck.

We have the same issue. My DH "deals with" our Disney habit so I also wanted to look into other alternatives and since our family make up is similar (young children) I will love to follow this thread. We were thinking of a NY trip or Canada since both are nearby. I agree with you on Hawaii - too far. I'd personally love to go to Italy or England if we were going to travel hours by plane. DH hears the "Islands" whispering his name some times, however his memories were in the before kids days.

We have made our second reservation at the White Swan Inn in San Francisco, we really liked it the first time. Also I've spent summers at Lake George NY and the Sagamore is very nice. Lastly what about Wash DC THere is plent to do and as a tax payer you already paid for it!

We have been to Vero Beach and we felt sort of limited on our options. There just wasn't enough to keep us busy for a whole week. Williamsburg was hubby's first suggestion. I'm just not sure how the two year old will do there. I think the older two would love it. We are open to anything. The Marriott's sound good. Where are they? We are totally new to this, obviously. I REALLY appreciate all your help!

I would still think about Hawaii. If you go to one of the outer islands, there is so much to see and do, and the 2 yo wont be as big an issue as it could be to other places. I would wait for Washington DC for a few years, so all the kids will appreciate it more. How about Tanque Verde Ranch?

However you could always go to Disneyland Paris.
The disneyland hotel is the entrance to the park.
The sites in Paris are to die for .
The Newport Bay has a wonderful pool indoor and outdoor.

Williamsburg would be a good choice, even w/2 year old. They have plenty to do at Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown. Busch Gardens (Old Country) is there along with Water Country USA (huge water park) which is part of Busch Gardens. If you go after Memorial Day, BG and WC should be open. You can also buy tickets that cover all of the above mentioned as a package. Check with the Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce for info (should be able to get info from web). You are also not far fro Norfolk and VA Beach, each with their own activities.

Someone earlier mentioned Hilton Head. Have you given that resort any thought? We haven't been to Vero but from the trip reports I've read, they seem different enough. You didn't mention if you were using points or not. Obviously you will get the most bang from your points with a DVC property (but that may not be a concern for you). There is so much to do in and around Hilton Head that you can be as active or as laid back as you like. DH and I will are going there next week and I can't wait!

Some of the activities include: biking, campfire, nature walks, dolphin cruises, playing pool, checkers, fish painting and other crafts/activities for the younger set, swimming (ocean and at the 2 pools) you could take a trip to Savannah or Charleston and of course most people's favorite - eating at the many wonderful island restaurants.

My husband would not even consider a DVC purchase until we stayed at Hilton Head on cash. We both fell in love with the resort.

Anyway, just a thought if your husband is suffering from Disney burn-out.

Hi - I asked a question in this forum already with no responses, so thought you might be able to answer:

Do you have any info on cost for the activities you mention (ie., dolphin tours, Pirates of the Calibogue, arts & crqfts, nature walks, etc?


Just trying to get an idea of how much additional cost for youth activities (7 YO DD).

Also, do you think the campfires & nice evening activities will be held in NON? We're headed there next week. Thanks!!!

Since I'm the Big Cedar Lodge pusher on here I need to add my .02 in. I love the Big Cedar Lodge near Branson, MO. Can't beat your own cabin, the lodge rooms would do also, lots of activities at the lodge like water activities, horseback ridding, hiking, pools, miniture golf, etc. Then you are minutes away from Branson with all the shows, shopping, etc. A day at Silver Dollar City with rides, shows, crafts and shops and a night at Celebration City, the new $4M theme park. Then close by is Dogwood Canyon with it's entire days worth of stuff. OK, I'll stop.

We hope to someday use our points for Lake George, Macinaw Island (SP?) and St. John.
