:confused3 a new tv hdtv lcd flat screen and there are some finger prints on it and how do i safely remove and clean the screen:happytv: :happytv: i dont want to ruin it..

Ack.... I'd think twice about using any solvents or cleansers on an LCD screen, unless specifically made for that purpose. You could be eating away at the surface, or building up a film, with the damage from either only becoming evident over time.

Check out this article from Popular Mechanics:
"We recommend using LCD cleanser that can be purchased at any electronics store," says a customer service tech for Westinghouse, a manufacturer of popular LCD televisions.
More details (including details on how to make your own cleanser):

So basically, the important aspect is the percentage of IPA in the water. Too little, and you won't be able to adequately clean away fingerprints. Too much, and you can damage the screen. You could try making your own, just be very very careful with your proportions.

Just a note not mentioned in the article: I highly recommend lightly dusting the surface, with a microfiber cloth, before cleaning it. Otherwise, you could end up scratching the surface with the dust.

We have a microfiber cloth and some spray that is specifically made for the LCD screen. (we got it at Circtuit City - so I am guessing best buy would sell it too- or even a staples)

I wouldn't use anything not designed for the LCD screen, either. Should anything happen, you'd likely have voided any warranty. Mine came with some solution and a microfiber cloth.

On a side note....when the cable guy was here delivering our digital cable box after we got out tv, he said to only use something made for the screen and clean it when it's cold. I don't know why, but he said not to do it while the tv is on and warmed up.

I think you need to buy a new one. And give the ruined one to me. :happytv:

I got a little kit at Wal-Mart that has cleaning solution and a blue microfiber-like cloth, it was a little pricey but seems like it will last forever as I've been using it for probably a year now on multiple LCD screens and there is barely a dent in it.

Maybe it has something to do with static electricity and how it attracts dust. I could imagine that cleaning the surface would be less effective while the screen is in a charged state.
