I'm taking my niece, who is almost 2.5, to WDW is Sept...

She seems to watch a lot of the kid shows on tv, but mostly PBS, Noggin and Sprout...

How do I get her into the disney cartoons??? Should I pick up some classic DVD's and get her to watch Mickey, Donald, Goofy and the gang? I did just pick up a muppet movie...

What shows does Disney Channel have I could get her to watch?

I remember when the Disney Channel first came out and they actually showed the classic Disney cartoons and movies...good times!

Disney Channel has several shows with characters a 2 1/2 year old woud probably like. Mickey Mouse Club house has Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, and Pluto. My friends Tigger and Pooh... has tigger, pooh, piglet, rabbit, eyore, kanga and rooh plus a few others. Handy Manny is one of my DD 4 favorites. I am sure that their are others as well like little einstiens, etc.

My DD2 was "hooked" when she watched Mickey Mouse Club House! She LOVES Mickey now and all the original characters! :thumbsup2

My DD2 watches (is currently watching) Little Einsteins, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Handy Manny, and My Friends Tigger and Pooh. On rainy days or days when I let her watch a video, we'll pop in one of the several Disney DVDs or (yes) VHS tapes from back in my day. She really enjoys the movies, and I tend to get wrapped up in nostalgia and wind up watching them with her. We fully intend to put some more of the classics on our Netflix and watch them together each week to familiarize her with the characters before we leave, and also to spend some family time together. She also likes to watch the Disney Vacation DVD. I've made a lot of her extra toys Disney themed. Coloring books, reading books, etc. are Disney.

For the trip, I picked up a really cute Mickey Mouse carry on bag at Barnes and Noble and am filling it with Disney themed toys. Coloring books, some travel toys from our (now closed :worried: ) Disney Store, Disney stickers, a Viewmaster with extra (Disney) reels. We're talking total immersion here. I've seen the Disney World sing along DVDs (I think they're actually filmed at WDW with the costume characters from the parks) and have thought about picking one up. Good luck!

Classic Disney cartoons and the Muppet movie are over her head.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about getting her 'into' the characters. She will have fun without knowing the details of each character. Just go and enjoy yourselves!

I would recommend Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on the Disney Channel as well as the old sing a long videos - there are two or three that my mom has (she does home daycare). They are live-action in the parks showing the characters singing and doing stuff around the parks. The kids just love them - they know all the songs from watching them since, well, their whole lives. Also, just watch some of the Disney animated classic movies with her. Have fun - don't worry too much about it, she'll enjoy the trip and the time with you regardless of whether she knows who every character is. :)

I agree, but if you really want to get her into things the sing-a-longs, the old Disney classics like Cinderella and the Playhouse Disney shows are your best bets.

Thanks all!

I agree I think the classic cartoons are not at her level right now, she will probably watch but not for as long...but, I will try none the less!

I think I will order the sing along dvd's! Which ones have the live action in the parks? I figure this would be best for getting her ready for encounters!

Then again, this could all be for naught...at her age, she has fun at the grocery store!!!

My dd just turned three, but ever since she was like 1.5 or 2, she has LOVED the theme park sing alongs!! Here are the titles that I have found (Let me know if you find any others!!)

Sing Along Songs at Walt Disney World Beach Party
Sing Along Songs Disneyland Fun It's a Small World
Sing Along Songs at Disney's Animal Kingdom Flik's Musical Adventure

I wasn't able to find any of them in stores and had to order them off BestBuy.com. If you don't want to buy them, check out your local library. I know our has all of them because that is where we saw them first. She got hooked and I got sick of renting the same movies over and over again... so I ended up just buying them.

Have you tried getting her a stuffed Minnie or Mickey?

That would be my idea! I'd go one step further, with the 2 year old age range, and get something that talks or is interactive, like the baby princesses, or one of the bouncy tiggers.

When I took my girls at 2 1/2 and 5, they had not seen many disney movies... mainly as most had a scary part adn they are chickens. :)...... but the thrill of the characters in the parks was just great, despite themnot really knowing who they were before hand.

DD loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Little Einsteins. I have also started having her watch Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid and other Disney classics to make sure she is excited when we see the characters at DL!:cutie:

Doing it "backwards" like this also means when they see the movies and start freaking at scary bits you can say, "But you know it turns out okay, because you saw her at Disney!"

Thank all for the advice!

I got her the Disneyland Sing Along DVD, she really likes it!

I'm going try to get her to watch some of the cartoons, but she may be too young still...

I did pick up Mary Poppins(for her and myself!). She actually will watch musicals occasionally like "Grease"...so, I'm thinking Mary Poppins with the music, dancing and some animation might be a winner!

My 3 year old neice loves to be read to...there's Pooh and Mickey for her age group.

My DD (almost 3) loves Mary Poppins. We have the Movie and the Broadway CD. The songs are different since they were adapted for the stage and she really loves singing to these.
My DD is also in to the princess now. She knew nothing about them until we went to Disney and now can't get enough. So don't worry about your niece not knowing the charaters.
