HELP I think I have a troll on my cruise thread!.

<troll> Someone who lurks on boards and tries to start heated debates. Sometimes with themselves or sometimes among others. They often lurk for awhile posting innocent posts to gain credibility then whammo! The fight is on. <Troll>

He tried to get me into a heated debate but I didn't rise to the occasion he went off even further. Any suggestions?? :confused3 He hasn't really done anything to report yet but is clearly going out of his way to try to upset me and he is. :guilty:

Ignore him. Seriously. Address everyone else in the thread and just pretend he isn't even there. Put him on ignore if that'll help you ignore him.

Sorry there isn't any better advice I can offer.

Is this him? Let me at 'em!

(really, the best thing to do is ignore him - he will shrivel up and die)

While I did see a few trolls while riding "Malstrom" last week at Epcot, sadly, they didn't offer suggestions on how to be rid of them.

Seriously, take Maleficent13's advice. You can't control what this poster writes, only your reaction to it.

Ditto

If he is disruptive, use the "report to a moderator" button and let the moderators intervene. :)

Don't Feed the Trolls!

They sure do seem to be coming out of the woodwork lately.

The cruise meet threads are wonderful and I've met some very very dear friends through them. However not everyone you meet on one is going to see things the same way as you. The advice you have given is good. If you don't agree with the person just ignore them.

Let each person judge you and the other person on their own merit. Some may agree with you, some may agree with them. The ship is big and it is very easy to avoid someone you don't want to spend time with.

I know your right but just to clarify bopping him on the nose at the dis meet is NOT the correct thing to do? :rolleyes1

As per the advice if he continues I will certainly put him on my ignore list so I can not see the posts & therefore not let him upset me.

report them to a mod
then put him on ignore and tell everyone else to put him on ignore in that thread

The troll is only trying to get attention. Just like a toddler, if you ignore the bad behavior, they will eventually stop doing it. At the same time, do respond if the person is actually taking a positive role in the conversation -- reinforce the good, ignore the bad!

Are you talking about the guy who questioned you about cancelling a cruise because you don't like beaches?

Wow!

If you think that's a troll, you really need to grow some thicker skin! Unless I'm missing something here... All the trolls I've ever seen are N-A-S-T-Y.

Put him on ignore and don't open his posts! It's really better that way, trust me.

Just because someone disagrees with you it doesn't necessarily mean they are a troll.

Interesting. I went to look at the post in questions and, although I'll admit I didn't read the entire thing, he didn't seem like a troll to me. Just someone who likes to disagree or argue. As the poster above said, just because someone disagrees with you - it doesn't make them a troll and doesn't warrant being reported to the Mods.

Definitely do the ignore thing if he bugs you though. I haven't done that in awhile, but there used to be someone here who drove me nuts. It worked like a charm.

I don't think he's trying to be a troll. He just wants to keep the cruise talk positive whether it's going East or West. Either that or he's working for Disney and afraid you'll talk all those cruisers into asking for refunds if they change the cruise from Western to Eastern.

I didn't report him. Like I said in my first post, I knew he hadn't really said anything to report. I just felt like he was going out of his way to start an argument. I'm sure if I rose to the occasion it would have escalated. Oh well maybe Marseeya's right & I just need a thicker skin.
