My logic may be warped or twisted by does it make the least bit of sense?

I bought my last truck 10 plus years ago and financed $16,000 which I aggressively paid off over in 3 years. (I hate debt!) For the last 7 plus years I have been driving my truck paying only for gas, oil, tires, routine maintenance and repairs.

I have seen many posts describing DVC ownership as a prepaid vacation experience or lifestyle. (Every time I read this, I just don't understand.)

Purchasing a new truck, I prepaid my truck driving experience. I think my first significant maintenance expense occurred after 6 years. I know co-workers who lease new cars before the new car smell disappears from their vehicle.

A person can pay for a monthly car lease or pay for their vacation out of pocket each year. Alternatively, a person can purchase their car or purchase their timeshare. Both purchases prepay or reduce the cost of on-going expense.

A reliable car or truck is not an option for me. Maybe I should also view my vacations as an non-optional expense.

Does this comparison somewhat explain what is meant when people refer to prepaying their vacations?

Thanks.

After reading this twice, I'm still not sure what you're getting at. Either way, you're prepaying for your vacations because you now own a certain amount of points...every year. The point values "essentially" stay the same every year. So, in theory, the week or two you paid for now....will be the same 40 years from now. So, when hotel rooms cost $2000/nt 40 years from now, you're still locked in at todays rate (your maintenance fees will have gone up though). The 160 points you purchased, will still give you the same accomodations in the future.

Part II: Or with the trucks....pretend you give GMC $80,000 now. They agree to give you a new truck for the next 40 years. So even if the price of trucks goes up a lot in the future, you've already guaranteed that you'll have the truck at today's price. While this isn't a perfect example (by any means), I was just trying to incorporate a truck scenario for you.
