Help! GF upgrades upon checkin?

We're leaving in 2 days for our first stay at the GF and was just wondering, has anyone gotten an upgrade to concierge or a suite if they asked during checkin? I would love an upgrade and would even pay for it, has anyone done this?

I've had 2 experiences with concierge upgrades at the GF. Many years ago DH and I booked a room in SugarLoaf concierge. When we arrived, we were escorted to the main building concierge. We never found out exactly how we got the upgrade, but the CM who checked us in was from the town next to ours and he said he liked to take care of his neighbors. More recently, this past May to be exact, we tried to upgrade at check in and we were quoted the difference between rack rates. I think it was somewhere around $345 more per night.

It never hurts to ask, just be prepared to pay.
