Help!

We are going in late October and have a 4 year old girl and a 9 year old boy. We are trying to decide between the GF Royal Palm Club or the Yacht Club Concierge. Price is not a huge issue, and we have stayed previously in Sugar Loaf and at the Yacht Club.

Is the RPC really gone down hill, or are people's expectations simply too high?

We like the proximity of the YC to Epcot and the Boardwalk, but the RPC sounds like a nice treat as well.

Which way should we go?

We love the Grand Floridian RoyalPalmClub. We haven't stayed at The Yacht Club for a very long time now and I can't remeber much about the resort, but we stayed in a concierge suite (I think) and it was also great. We have a 3 year old son and I think he would probably prefer Yacht Club, although me and my wife would definitely prefer GF. Your 2 children would probably LOVE stormalong (is that what it's called) bay - it is like a massive private resort water park.

Have fun deciding - why not take a look at the FAQ pages of the 2 hotels to help decide. Your choice is more important that other's views as your family will have different needs and desires on vacation.

We have stayed at both, and my vote is for the YC. The service there is much better than the RPC, and I agree that your kids will love Stormalong Bay. The new GF pool is fine, but nothing compared to Stormalong Bay, IMHO.

We had a rough stay at the RPC recently, and I do not think that our expectations were too high; in fact, our trip was after many posters had talked on these boards about the problems that they had faced. We went into the vacation with our eyes open and our expectations low, and we were still disappointed.

Good luck with your decision!

I stayed at the RPC in 1998 and left after just two days. I was very disappointed in the staff and the guests of concierge as well. I have stayed at the hotel since in a regular and did just fine. I think the kids would love the Yacht Club and Stormalong Bay. I have never stayed there before but I will be there starting on Friday. I could let you know when I get back how concierge was, but I have heard all good things about it and it has just been completely refurbished.

My first instinct would be to say "Grand Floridian," for three simple reasons: location, location, location. Nothing, but nothing, can compare with being THAT CLOSE to the Magic Kingdom -- and your kids are perfect ages for the MK

I mean, rolling out of bed and onto the monorail and then right onto Main Street...what could top that? And then just hopping on the boat for a quick cruise back to your room at the end of the day?

Can you say: "Paradise"? :D

Then again ... when it comes to the concierge there, the word on the street lately has not been very good. And the Yacht Club is almost as luxurious, and DOES have that amazing pool. (Though does anyone really pick a resort because of the pool? And is that really why someone visits Disney? For some, maybe. Dunno. Just wondering... :smooth: )

But if MK will be your prime destination, it's not as convenient.

Tough call. Very tough.

Actually, I would guess we would spend an equal amount of time at Epcot the Tragic Kingdom and MGM. It would seem the Yacht Club wins for convenience to Epcot, but the splendor of GF and RPC is hard to turn down. I would like more on what has been so bad about RPC lately.

I stayed at Yacht Club Concierge... I thought it was lovely.. great food... nice rooms.. I have stayed at the GF too but not concierge.. well.. that is a long story.. i was suppose to be concierge, I took the Grand Plan years ago.. but somehow they never gave it to me.. and I was young and foolish then.. it would never happen now..

I spent the past few days reading all of the posts on the RPC and all I can say is "Geeesh!" Is there anyone who liked the place? Are these people clueless? They are charging the same rate I would pay to take my family to the Ritz in Paris and they have an attitude?

Maybe Disney has become too fat and happy.

Methinks we belong at the Yacht Club. Fall special ornot, I don't want to pay $500/night to be treated as an afterthought.

Does anyone at Disney read theses boards? They better!!!

Email me if you are interested and I will give you the story of my stay at the RPC. We will be at the Yacht Club Concierge on Friday and I hope to take pictures and get them up on the site when I get back.
