ok, this probably belongs on the community board, but i don't really post there so:

Wipe any excess moisturiser off the surface of the nail. Take your white crayon and whiten your tips by colouring them in on the back of the free edge of the nail.

yes i was looking up simple tips for a do-it-yourself french manicure. when it says that thing about the white pencil crayon, is it saying you color the underside of your nail (the side you don't see?) cause i mean, i couldn't imagine painting over the crayon if it was on the side of your nail you paint, but it seems odd to put it under your nail as well..................

and while i'm discussing accessorizing, it seems everyone wants to straighten their hair. my sister has one of the best straighteners out there, but i don't want straght hair, i want curly hair. and i don't mean like the way it looks with curlers. i want those natural looking curls, so i was gonna buy a curling iron. however, i've been told that not all curling irons really give your hair that nice look. so if you can reccommend a curling iron that actually works, drop me a line (i do have a curling iron- it just doesn't really work.......)

well, I'll look up some of the good curlers, but just wondering, what your sister's straightener?

How can you say it is one of the best straigteners, if all of them do the same job? I have a 'Ceramic' straightner. I don't like it when people make ALL their hair curly. maybe a couple of locks in the front. My hair is wavy when it gets wet. I rather get a mani+pedi done at a salon then by myself. That's half the fun! reading magazines with your girls and relaxing.

milkabum, actually there is a difference in hair straighteners. :) DD has very thick wavy hair, so we have had experience with quite a few. While they all do the same thing, some work better than others, making the time it takes to get the job done much less. ;) I'm not sure which type she is using now, but I do know she has her eye on a professional brand that is well over $100!

I have a ceramic straightener. It cost about 40 bucks. Pretty expensive when you could get one at Wal-Mart for 20 dollars. But maybe some last longer, and work better. :)

right........... yeah straightener first........ i'll check what she has, but it goes to like over 400 degress (that's possible right??? or is it 40- i hate straightening my hair, so i don't know)......... it's scary because my sister used to invite friends over, and they'd use her straightener and be like omg!!! this straightens so quickly!!! in fact, if i wanted to, i could straighten all my hair in less than 5 minutes and it's getting kinda long (i'm growing it for locks of love), that's how strong it is...........

and for the nails, i don't go to the salon because my mom won't let me get tips.......... she's afraid i'll get an infection, or fungus, or whatever.......... i find no reason why i should go to the spa/salon to get done what i could do just as good for free............. anyways, i found this cute design (no manicure looks the same of course) and they look nice

If you do tips or artificial nails, keep in mind that they will affect your real nails. The longer you use them, the worse your real nails will get. The glue is not good for your real nails. This is besides the fack that you can get infections and fungus.

Also, using nail polish, it will also affect your nails. Even if you are using clear, the polish will eventually affect the real color of your nails. If you use nail polish for a while, your natural nails will take on a slightly odd tone. Clear & whites can make them yellow, reds will turn them pinkish, etc. And it will take a while for that to grow out. Also never use a buffer on your nails for more than a few strokes. Over use will thin your nails out and make them hard to grow.

I used to do my own artificial nails/tips/real nails and found all this out the hard way when I went thru a period of time that my nails would not stay long. :) Now all I do is keep them clean, filed and shiney with a light buffing and my friends are once again envious of my nails. :thumbsup2

As for straightening hair, just make sure that the hair is well conditioned. using hot irons, hot blow dryers and using chemicals will dry out your hair and make it look dull.

thanks!!! i also hear it hurts like h-e- double toothpicks (are we allowed to say that?) when you get your tips taken off............ sadly i have had experience when leaving nail polish on.............. i think heat tends to make it worse (i painted my toes, went to fla, and when i took off the polish- well, it wasn't very pleasant).................... i think for now i'll stick with simple curlers until i find a mega curling iron! :)

Well, I wouldn't spend too much on one considering it may break, eventually get old and won't work as well, and you can probably get a straightener just as good cheaper.

Bell and I have the same straighteners :teeth:

Actually, it should never hurt to put on or take off tips. If it does, then it's being done wrong.

To take off tips and fake nails, always use an acetone based nail remover. The chemical will eventually melt the plastic and glue enough to get them off without any pain. It just takes a long time. :)
Another tip for nail salons, if they use any "power" tools like an electric file, leave. Those salons tend to be uncaring and unprofessional. Find another place that doesn't use them. Any salon that will do a good job will take the time to do things right. There should never be any pain involved when getting manicures. :)

lol, thanks!!!! that's really interesting because my mom got tips, got them taken off, and she said they gave her lots of pain, even after they were taken off. she was advised by a friend to use firma-nail (it's a clear nail polish that supposedly strengthens (sp.?) your nails).......... then again, we had had reason to believe that the salon wasn't top notch.........
