This was posted over on DR, if anyone is interested contact him, his email is in the post. I would but I'm not a runner and I have some ladies I promised to help get through their races.

Hi all

I am a visually impaired runner and am participating in the Goofy. I need guides while it is dark, but can do fine on my own once the sun rises. Stephanie has kindly offered to guide me in the marathon. I had a friend who was going to guide me in the half, but he has just hurt his back. I am desperate to find someone to guide me in the half. I am very grateful to anyone who will volunteer. I know it is asking a lot, but I don't want to miss out. I have been training for this for a long time. My goal is to finish both races without walking. Time isn't important. Anything between a 8:45 pace and a 10:45 pace would be fine with me. I don't want to get in the way of anyone going for a PR, but if someone who is running to have fun and finish would like to volunteer, i would be very grateful. I am a 33 yr old male from Georgia. My email is cslancaster@gmail.com.

thank you,
Chris

I'm too slow for him also, but I want to keep this bobbing around the top.

Thank you Ronda, I've never met him but I've found that when I help someone else during the race its' even more meaningful.

DH might be able to help... if no one else has responded - I'll email him...

but hasnt DR gone to a pay to view format, and one of the things you get for your membership is someone who will pace with you?

GMTA, Dave. I was just coming here to post the info. I wish I was fast enough to help, but I know we have some folks here who can run at that pace.

Any of the fast folks able to help?

Mel Dh will be glad to help - which means he wont feel guilty about not staying at the back of the pack with me!! (I have no desire to hold him back - this would be perfect for him!)

we saw a few guides and blind athletes at the Chicago Triatholon - I sent him DH's email!

I am pretty sure he will find help here in the WISH group but if he has not someone may want to direct him to the ROTE site. They are a very active group with loads of good people (many who are also active WISH members)and there is no fee to join there.

If anyone needs the url let me know.

I am certain this man will find someone willing to help.

DH offered, and I emailed Chris, he responded - sounds like they will make a good team!

If he contacts Achillies http://www.achillesinternational.org/ they will provide him with a guide.
They are commimg to the WDW marathon weekend as the "freedom team" are rolling.

Achillies would be a fantastic group for him to join as they race all over the world and always have guides for walkers / runners (even for BQ's) and chairs!!! They have some supper fast runners!!!!!

How cool! I will e-mail him as well, so that he has a backup. I should have no trouble with the pace (albeit on the slower end of it)

Y'all beat me to it. Maybe we can run as a team of folks instead of just one. I'll email him too.

I am a bit too slow to offer my help...but i just wanted to say that I think it is so cool that so many people have offered to help this gentleman! That is one of the great things about this team....everyone is so nice and willing to help others! You guys are the best!!

Charles, I think your earlier comment on the other thread about the Snot Rockets probably scared him off :rotfl:

We would have made good guides too!

Thanks for everyone's offers. I've been in contact with Chris for a few months now. I'll be guiding him for the dark hours of the full on Sunday. I offered to help him through the half as well after his half guide fell through, but he doesn't want me to give up my attempt at a PR so was going to try to find an alternative. However, he knows the offer still stands if he can't find something else. There are things in life that are far more important than a PR... those can always come again.

DH called and talked to Chris, they are all set. He is planning on coming to the Pop Meet on Friday - and probably meet at the Expo on Thurs if our flight is on time!!

That's fabulous, Sandy! Thanks to you and your DH for helping out a fellow runner! You guys rock! :thumbsup2

That is awesome Sandi, so glad someone was able to help out, that is why I love this site!

I hope you both have awesome races and I am very glad your DH now won't feel guilty about not running with you

see you all at the pop meet

Kirsty
