HELP people with kids. We will be at Disney 9/8/03 - 9/13/03 and the wife is all confused as where to stay. How is the room size compared between the value and moderates? I'm talking standard rooms since it is only dad, mom, and a 4-year old. We could probably afford either. We have the All Star Movies reserved, but my wife will be miserable if the room is too small.

I've seen alot of backpack talk. Any backpack recommendations (brand, size, etc)? Should we get a waterproof one or just put everything in zip bags?

Thanks

Welcome to the DIS boards.

The rooms at the values are smaller than the moderates but I don't think it will be bad for the 3 of you. I have done it with my 2 teenagers and we didn't have a problem.

You will have a great time no matter where you stay. It is a great idea to pack ziploc bags, especially this time of year.

I have never stayed at the AS hotels but I do know that they have some of the smallest (square footage wise) rooms at Disney. However, you need to look at what your family's preferences are...do you like to stay at the parks all day? or do you prefer to spend alot of time at the hotel? Does your 4 yr old need to nap in the afternoon? It has been mentioned here that the AS are a bit noisy, so this may interfere with nap time (if there is one). IMHO if parks are your thing, then the AS would an OK resort to stay at. If you are concerned about the room size, move up to a moderate hotel. I belive that CBR has the largest rooms of all the moderates and it has a beach too. Hope this helps!!

Welcome! We've only stayed at CR (loved it). So, I can't comment on the values or mod's.

What was/is important to me is hotel style rather than spread out/resort style. I want to be close to everything in the hotel. Plus, I must have interier rooms. Also, location. We spend most of the time at MK, so we're staying close.

I believe if you go into Disney's site, they give you the actual square footage for each room.

Enjoy your stay!!

For three if you aren't going to be doing much more than sleeping and showering in yoru room, then the All Stars will be OK space wise. They are about the size of the average budget hotel, like a Motel 6 or Red Roof or Fairfield Inn.

I'm not particularly found of them, as I find the decor a bit tacky and we had noise problems during all three trips that we stayed at them.

If it's in your budget, stepping up to a moderate will give you more room, but also more amenities. Double vanities in the bathroom, a full service restaurant in addition to a food court, and pool areas with slides and hot tubs.

It will still be hot when you are visiting, so the pools miight be something you will spend some time at, and you should consider this when making a decision. Keep in mind the various codes and discounts listed on mousesavers.com, you might be able to get a moderate for less than rack rate in a value :)

We will be at the Movies in a few weeks, its me, dh,dd14 and her friend 14. This year i booked 2 rooms, fig. we would have 2 bathrooms with teens. lol. but now im now sure if we should just stick to 1 room and save the money. We are out all day. My husband fig. that we should have 2 rooms. We tried for OKW but nothing avail. I did not book FTP cause we wernt sure if we wer going . So as of today i have 2 rooms only. I would love to stay the CBR, but dont know if any rooms left. Oh yeah to SAfetyMom, do you really think we should do 1 room. We did last year , but they are 14 now???? such decisions. I figure it would save us almost 900.00 for the 2nd room only with AAA. what do u guys think??

If you want interior rooms off a common hall, to the best of my knowledge you won't find them at value or moderates. You can request a building close to the Old Port Royale to be close to the food court and gift shop as well as main pool but the CBR has separate pools at each "island" in addition to the main pool. If you request a room away from the parking lot it should be very quiet. We have never had a noise problem at the CBR in many, many stays. I haven't stayed at the AS resorts but I have heard they can be pretty noisy. Like the CBR, they are spread out. You might be able to get a good rate on the CR or the Poly as it sounds more like your idea of what you want. I also love the BWI and have gotten some great rates there on AP. Actually, I find the inside rooms to be a lot more noisy than the CBR with people getting up super early and coming back super late with absolutely no regard to who might be sleeping.

I'd go for the moderate if money isn't a huge issue.

Dopey's twin Dippy, I don't know how much time you plan on spending in the room at AS but you should be fine. One room would be OK.

My teenagers know that we have to share when we go on vacation and it works out well.

Staying at CBR would give you a little more room but also would have the curtain in the sink area would give you another dressing area.

My kids know we aren't going to do this for a long time so they are very accomodating on vacation.
