I have a few months to go, (wedding in the fall) but I can't imagine creating ALL my menus, place cards, programs, etc. while going to grad school and teaching full time in the fall, so I want to work on what I can over the summer.

I am figuring on creating 100 of everything, expecting 60-80 guests.

So, I will need ribbon for 100 5 x7 programs. I will also probably want a little extra for tying around the welcome bags (prob. about 50) and for around the flower girls' two baskets.

Does 100 yards sound like a good amount to order? I wouldn't mind having extra for when small things turn up, more worried about running out.

How exactly do you plan to use the ribbon on the programs? Just a quick bow around the entire thing? Or maybe wrapped up like a scroll? And will the programs be portrait or landscape? You will need more if you are going the landscape route.

Just a quick calculation (bow wrapped around a portrait style program):
Depending on bow size... I would over estimate the length of the ribbon to be about.... 20 inches.

20 inches*100 programs = 2000 inches/36 inches = 55.5 yards

So, I would probably go with 65-80 yards max. That should be plenty to wrap around baskets as well and tying the bags. You should really do a mock up to get exact measurements if tying bows or anything like that. But 100 yards sounds like waaay too much! Especially with how expensive ribbon can be. Hope that helps! :) (Yay for working in a fabric store all through high school, :rotfl:)

Edit: After thinking a bit more about it, I changed my calculation from 15 inches to 18 inches, just to be safe. :)
Edit again: Changed my mind again! Haha! 20 inches now. :P Bag calculation too:

12 inches * 50 bags = 600 inches/36 inches = 16.67 yards

Thanks, Sarah!

The programs will be booklet style 5 x7 and the ribbon will be down the long side and tied to hold it together.

IDK if that makes a difference.

I saw a place online that sold gorgeous ribbon for $20 for 100 yards, I guess that's way more than enough lol.

Only $20 for 100 yards? Wow, nice. I have never seen it that cheap. May as well get 100 then. Can always, I dunno, use it for Christmas? :thumbsup2

Check out bbcrafts.com. I got 300 yds of single face satin ribbon for $20 for all of my paper products and invitations.
