HELP! End cap feature Plantin Schoolbook

I can't remember how to do it. I select end cap and push the star key to get the left star then I type then the shift end cap to get the right side - -this doesn't work - -the letters are up high and not connected to the end caps.

Does anyone know how to do this?

I'll post a photo when I am done. I used a star end cap and I CAN READ for the school swap. Set at 1 inch, it was fairly easy. I just need to remember to turn the paper saver button back on.
