HELP! DS has a telephone interview tonight for the DCP and he never thought he'd get a telephone interview right away. His friends have applied & still not heard anything. He figured, he'd apply now & maybe they'd call him a few months down the road.

The problem is that he just started a great new job here at home & he also just started big car payments (for his age). We can probably get his auto insurance payments manageable by just parking his car in the garage while he's gone but would he make enough to pay rent & whatever other living expenses he'd need out there, along with his $200 per month car payment here? He also has other debts he needs to pay off, which he can't take a break from. He doesn't have enough $$ saved yet to cover his car payments while he's away, if he did get chosen for the program.

I wouldn't worry so much but every single job he has ever applied for & interviewed for, he has always landed. Not saying he's going to be chosen for the DCP just over this one telephone interview this evening, but what if he is? I don't think he's in a good financial place to take it. Would they let him reapply, if he now needs another year or two to get himself into a better financial situation? He incurred all these bills since he applied or else he may not have, for the time being.

Any advice, this mom would truly appreciate. I want him to do this one day just don't think this is the right time unfortunately. :confused3

I would say it would be pretty tough to meet his financial commitments working in the CP. Pay ranges from minimum wage to about $10/hour from what I've heard. It really depends on role, work history, education level when starting the program. Rent is going to run $300-$400 per month in CP housing. Here are the various weekly rents from the onboarding site:

Chatham Square
1 BR: 2 Person - $105
1 BR: 3 Person - $85
2 BR: 6 Person - $78
3 BR: 6 Person - $92
4 BR: 8 Person - $91

The Commons
1 BR: 2 Person - $109
1 BR: 3 Person - $89
2 BR: 4 Person - $107
2 BR: 5 Person - $82
3 BR: 6 Person - $95
4 BR: 8 Person - $94

Patterson Court
1 BR: 2 Person - $105
1 BR: 3 Person - $85
2 BR: 4 Person - $103
2 BR: 5 Person - $80
3 BR: 6 Person - $92

Vista Way
2 BR: 4 Person - $98
3 BR: 6 Person - $89

FYI CPs just got approved for the same hourly raise as other employees. I believe its going to be $9 now

Thank you both for your responses. We talked it over & he knows he just can't do it now. How sad for him. Too bad he didn't listen to the parents that 'know nothing' because we kept trying to tell him to hang on to his old car (with very low car payments). His dream could have become a reality.
