Here's our dilemma: the local drive in is only playing Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest or X-Men III. The only movie my kids have seen that's pg-13 is the latest Harry Potter and they didn't get to watch the end because it was so scary for them.

My question is, have your girls in this age level seen either movie, and were they ok with it? What parts would I have to hide their eyes on? I'd say they're probably more into super heroes than pirates...

I'm blaming Pee Wee Herman for this because we watched Pee Wee's Big Adventure on TvLand today and the ending had a drive in and they were FASCINATED by the idea of a drive in theater...

My DS is 7 and I wouldn't take him. I haven't seen the movie, but I saw the first one, and I wouldn't let him watch that. However, we're kind of a G movie family, with the occasional mild PG. The kids are currently watching "Angels in the Outfield" on DVD.

Yeah, I'm thinking I'm going to have to pass on this one...

Too bad, Nacho Libre is PG but it's not playing until 12:15 :confused3

My dh took our 8 year old DS and he LOVED it!! I think it really depends on the child.

Just took my 8 and 10 year old girls the other day and they both LOVED it. DD8 says only one part was a little scary...but she didn't hide her eyes!

Dh took 7 yo ds to see it last weekend and they both loved it. Here's a link to site with good reviews of movies. It really lets you know why movies got their ratings and what to expect. http://www.kids-in-mind.com/

HTH!

We are just back from seeing it I took my 8 year old dd and my 12 year old son- He LOVED it and she loved it too- didn't think it was too scary- I on the other hand screamed out loud in one point. It was much creapier than the last one imho. But it depends on the child. My dd is wearing a pirate bandana right now and wants a pirate birthday. So I guess she liked it.

I just talked to a friend of mine who took her 7 yo boy to see it and she said it was less scary than the first one, and told me which parts to cover their eyes, so now I'm torn.

Thanks for that website!

Let me add that we've got the first one on dvd and they haven't seen it because they are really, really afraid of skeletons, for some reason. My friend says the second one is skeleton free, jsut a bunch of octopus-men.

Any other scenes I want to possibly hide their eyes? (they're used to me doing this with the harry potter movies-I think they've seen about half of each one :rotfl: )

My 6 year old will not be seeing POTC2 for a very long time. There are shots of a prisoner in a bird cage type thing getting his eye pecked out by a crow. Jack has a thumb necklace on at canibal Island, which he nibbles on. Will gets whipped, on screen, by his dad....... And elizabeth does something very shocking at the end that i will not describe, but kids definately wont understand and could be very upset by it.

Holy Crap! I just went to the website and looked up Pirates. Sheesh! I may not be ready for it.

I stopped reading at the part where the guy's brains were stuck to the boat.

The kids would spend the whole time with my hands over their eyes :rotfl:

I agree that the gross factor was right at the start with the birds- I mean that was almost the movie opener- Then besides that the sea pirates are not that gross just strange. And the voodoo stuff scared me but not my kids. The priestest was a great actress! I was totally spooked by her. There are a few head chopping incidents too. I think I will be more traumatized than my kids- oh and no skeletons- walking dead but no skeletons. oh wait there was a skeleton leg.......

my 7 yearold brother and his 7 year old friends saw it and said it was funny. i saw it and there was limited blood and i would say it is fine

Probably too late, but we also saw this at the drive-in on Thursday night. IMO it has some pretty violent/inappropriate scenes, but honestly no moreso than a lot of movies most people seem to let their little ones watch. In other words, I don't find it appropriate, but I'm willing to bet a lot of people would. JMO! HTH someone.

I took my 7 and 9 y.o.s to see it on Friday. The 7 y.o. thought it was boring. The 9 year old enjoyed it. It was a bit intense and scary, lots of violence but no real gore. I'd say a kid would have to be at least 8 to even follow the plot line. I'd rate the gore and violence somewhere between Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings pirate:

Not too late; we're taking a pass on it.

Maybe the haunted house movie (which is also freaking me out a bit!) will come to the drive in...
