I have a bottle of tequella that is about 18 years old. It was opened. I have a margarita mix and forgot to buy a new bottle ( don't drink much tequella) So can I use it?

I don't know the answer but I have a similar question about other alcohol....whiskey, scotch, etc. Open and/or unopened. Anybody know if they go "bad"?

Hey, Spinning what is it with you....first an ancient candy cane, now the tequila!!:D :D

I'm not sure, but I highly doubt alcohol goes bad! Does it smell like tequila?

Your tequila should still be good...

The alcohol in liquors easily prevents bacteria from causing spoilage. If you've kept it stored in a cabinet and tightly capped, it should be fine.

(I've never kept a bottle of tequila around long enough to test this theory, so let me know how it turns out! )

What can I say I must be cleaning house! LOL! Well I tasted a tiny shot of it.....burned my mouth just like it did years ago! And brought back some memories....Tasted fine so I poured it into the tub and added the mix and it is now in my freezer!

if you throw up, you could say its because it was bad

LOL, Pop Daddy! I hope they're delicious. I wouldn't know, as a bottle of tequila would get turned to margaritas way before that long in this house.;)

What time did you say??

HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What can I say!?!?!?!?!?Come on over!

I was wondering the same thing about wine coolers..does anyone know? We had bought a LOT before I got pregnant because we had just moved into our new house and had a house warming party (I guess you can figure out how we celebrated) so I couldn't drink it when I was pregnant and then I breast-fed for a year so it was sitting in the fridge for almost two years...in fact, it still is since I don't know what to do with it??? So would that be safe too??? I keep being told that I should just throw it out, but I just can't bring myself to do waste it like that. Any opinions???

The tub is what the margarita mix came in! I got it from BJ's! It is really good!

Wine coolers I know about! Yes they do go bad! And really taste terrible! Look at the bottles first and if you see anything floating toss it! If not open it and smell then a small taste....you will know right away if it is bad!

The truth is that storing spirits, as opposed to wine, is not talked about very much--primarily because those beverages have very high alcohol levels, and are quite resistant to spoilage of any kind.

The reason that some people store their vodka in the freezer is not to protect it, but to have it already chilled when they want to drink it. This is perfectly safe, and will work for other spirits as well.

I am not a big fan of storing things, long term, in the refrigerator because I believe that the vibrations can take away some of the flavor--but this is far more true of wine than of spirits. Vodka, rum and tequila should all be fine.

Wine, with its lower alcohol, will actually partly freeze in the freezer---and will not age successfully at all there. And NEVER store Champagne in the freezer. Not only will it freeze, but it will release all of the CO2 from the liquid-- and create a glass hand-grenade from the resulting pressure!

I don't know if tequila goes bad, but I know of a few people that go bad with tequila.:teeth:
