We booked and paid for our flight ealry last spring.

Now, with our trip only 3 weeks away, Transmeridian called and said our flight home was cancelled. They have decided to no longer offer a flight home on Mondays.

We were offered a flight either 1 day earlier or 2 days later. A lot of plans will be disrupted. Hotel reservations, Tiffany town car, an ECV rental for the duration of our stay, extra days taken off work if we decide to take the later flight, our PS for the last night if we leave early.

I have never had this happen before. Any suggestions on how to deal with this?

Ask if they'll put you on a different airline's flight on the original day for the trip back. I don't know if they'll do it, but when I've been bumped in the past, airlines have managed to get me a seat on a competitor rather than waiting for their next available flight. It's worth a shot.

Welcome to the world of charter airlines. Nope, they don't have to do anything but refund your money. They are under no obligation to transfer you another airline and they probably don't have the interline agreements that the other airlines have with each other to cover this type of thing.

Unfortunately you have very few options when dealing with a charter airline. They fly under different rules.

We had a post running about Transmeridian and how they just cancel flights. As was stated, they are a charter airline and not commerical, so they are not bound by the same rules as the large airlines. I did not know this when I booked and luckily I was not affected by their cuts, but others that posted were. I do not believe you have any recourse, but try southwest or another airline for the return flight and see if the rates are anywhere near competitive. Since they are refunding your money see if the prices are close so you don't have to change too many of your plans. Good luck.

I took the offer of a flight two days later. Two more days at Disney with an annual pass is no hardship.

My biggest concern is for my son and his SO who are travelling to Disney on Transmeridian on Dec 31. He is a student and his budget and his time are not as flexible as ours.

Nothing I can do about that except wait and see and hope. Can you guess that I am the one who booked his flight?
