I have a dilemma for our upcoming trip to WDW. I am a shutterbug- easily take 4 rolls of film at a holiday function- and I have a great SLR camera that I love. So at the present time I still love film photography, and will continue to use it. I do have a digital camera and am planning to use both on our vacation. My problem is that I need to get more memory for my digital and can't decide how much. I get about 117 pictures on my 256, will the 512 get me double? What about 1 gig? As you can see, I really am digitally challenged! I was also wondering if they have more memory for sale at WDW in case I need even more. If they do, is the price outrageous? Any advice or suggestion would be appreciated. :earboy2:

I am fairly new to the digital world as well but am quickly becoming a convert from my traditional 35 mm!

I know an approximate answer to your question about how many pics for the memory cards. Judging by you saying you get 117 pics on your 256 MB it sounds like you might have a 4 megapixel camera. The megapixels is what determines how many pictures fit on your card. My new digital is a 6 megapixel which means I can only get about 80 on a 256MB card.

If you went to a 512 MB card you would get around 256 pictures and a 1GB card would get you around 512. This info comes from a chart I have....I don't hold all this in my head! :)

I don't have any idea about buying more memory at Disney. I do know that for all the digital cameras out there, there are also many different memory cards that do not work universally in all cameras. So be sure you know what kind of memory card you need to look for.

I hope that helps you a little bit. I'm taking some courses through a local camera store to learn more about my digital...hoping to learn how to take some great fireworks shots for our next trip to Disney!

You're welcome and you are going to love the digital for your vacations. That's actually what converted me.....on our last trip to Disney it was so fun to be able to look at our day's pictures at the hotel at night and then just delete ones that I knew I didn't want. I still took a ton but at least I knew then and there that I got a good shot or not vs. waiting until the film is developed at home.

Since you said you had the 5 megapixel camera, just thought I would tell you my chart says you would get 102 pictures with a 256 card, 204 with a 512 card and 409 with the 1 GB.

Happy picture taking!

I would watch the sales in your area for memory cards and buy several. Keep in mind that what you should do is not put all your images on one card while out shooting. That way if you lose one or something happens to the card you haven't lost all your images.

Also you want to take them at a fairly high resolution if you are printing. It is better to take them at a high resolution and print small then take small images and try to print them big.
