Of course, we didn't get Le Celier for our date night. But, I went ahead and booked Captain's Grille. I want opinions about Captain's Grille. I am also thinking about the Wave. Has anyone eaten there? If so, is it "normal" food? My husband and I neither one like "different" stuff.

Second question. My parents wanted to go to California Grill for their date night, but when I made our ressies Monday, the firework schedule wasn't out yet for our dates. Now, the schedule is out, but I can't seem to get them a reservation around firework time - all I could get was 5:30 and 9:00 (Wishes starts at 8:00 in December). I am guessing 5:30 is too early to go. For those of you who have been to the Wave restaurant in the Contemporary, can you see the fireworks from there?
As always, thanks for your help!!

Don't know about the food at the Wave but I know there are no windows so you wouldn't see the fireworks. What about Ohanas? I believe there are some window tables that overlook MK. Or Narcoossees, they pipe in the music for Wishes and they have a viewing terrace.

Thanks!! So, if I make their Ressies at Ohana's, they might be able to view the fireworks from their table - IF they can get a window seat? What is Ohana's like...what kind of food, service, etc...?

Having stayed at the Beach Club, my impression of Captain's Grill was that it feels like a hotel restaurant rather than "destination dining". I have not eaten there, though, so take it for what it's worth.

I don't believe the Wave has a fireworks view. Have your parent's look at Narcoossee's or 'Ohana instead of the Wave.

I've been to Captain's Grille twice, unfortunately. It was just ok at best. There are so many place to choose from, so don't waste your time with CG.

you could book somewhere earlier that you can see the fireworks and go out to the beach after dinner and watch, ohanas is one place I think you can do this

I was able to get an ADR for 2 about 5 - 6 weeks before our trip, during free dining!!! I'd start checking online about 50 days out, looking for cancellations. You never know. Other than that, I'd also skip Captain's Grill. You could go to Ruby Tuesdays instead. I even liked Olivia's at OKW better. Look at the menus to see where you want to go. What about Kona? My dd12 LOVED the teriyaki steak there, and they have prime rib. Good luck looking!

Check and see what nights the MVMCP is....the fireworks are at 9:30 on those nights....so a 9:00pm ressie at CG might still work out for you. and you'll see the Holiday Wishes fireworks, not the regular Wishes.

I would go with the Wave over Captain's Grill. We ate at both our last trip and while the Captain's Grill was fine (berry smoothie was fabulous), I really liked The Wave. I am not very adventureous with food either and I thought the Wave was great. The food wasn't really that different. It was delicious, however. The desserts were a bit different but very good (I picked my three from different trios - they weren't too thrilled but they let me.) There are no windows in The Wave but after our meal we did go out on the terrace upstairs and watched the fireworks. Other than alittle drizzle, it worked great.

Thanks for all the help so far. Keep the dinner suggestions coming. But, that is a great idea about the Mickey's Christmas Party fireworks. No fireworks are listed for that night on the schedule, but the Christmas Party is, so I am going to go with what the previous poster said and book them at CG at 9:00 - if it's still available, and pray that they get to see the fireworks!

Glad I could be of help! I am doing the exact same thing and getting a late-ish ressie for CG to see the Holiday Wishes fireworks from a different view (will be at the party another night to see it close up as well). Hope it all works out for you. :goodvibes
