I am considering (not set in stone) getting a tattoo. I would like one on the small of my back, small and discret, not gaudy. The only thing negative that is on my mind, ready for this one, is when I am old and in a nursing home and they roll me over to change my diaper :rotfl2: , they will say, "Ha, ha, look at this old lady's tattoo!!!". Why I am thinking this, I don't know  . Anyways, here are the two choices. Not sure which I like better. Can I get someone else's opinion.....

Also, if anyone regrets getting a tattoo, tell me why. You never know, you may change my mind!!!

When you are in a nursing facility most likely many of the other patients will have tattoos too!
Just be sure you love whichever one you choose, if you decide to get one. I have 6 of them and i only regret one of them that i got when i was 22. I have three on my back, 2 on my stomach and one on the inside of my ankle. Only one shows when i am wearing a skirt, so i have the discretion when i am at work. All of mine have some special meaning to me. I didn't just pick something that looked "pretty" and i didn't want anything that was trendy or that a million other would have. I like mine because of the originality. Everyone is different so i can't help you with which one to pick and i can't talk you in or out of it. Just just make sure that if you do decide to get one, you love it and think that you can live with it forever, even when you are in a nursing facility. Make sure you go to someone that has experience. They absolutely DO hurt so make sure you will be able to withstand the pain, you don't want one that is only half done. I am great at taking pain, but on your back, especially the spine area, it is excrutiating. I had a three hour one put on my spine. For three hours i didn't move. I hope that you will make the right decision for yourself. Personally, i love tattoos, but they are not for everyone. Good luck!!!

I think its a wonderful idea. I've always wanted a tattoo. Something small, that I could cover up, and something that means something to me. I wouldn't want it on my lower back though, thats kindof cliche' to me. If you're worried about ti, why not get it somewhere else?

I like the heart more than the roses.

I have a few tattoos and don't regret them. I like the one with the heart better.

I have a scorpio on my upper buttocks I REGRET it. I was 18 & stupid. It is so nasty looking 25 years later. You would never in a million years think I have one. My husband's friend used to call me Sweet Polly Purebread when we were dating. DH has no tattoos... so It's kind of funny I have one. I kept it a secret from my Dad for :sad2: 23 some years & my DD9 told him.

No problem handling the pain, I have a very high threshold. And I am sure that it is gonna hurt  !

If not lower back, then where??? I want it to be centered on my body and that is the only place I can think of and still keep it discreet.

Like I said, still not sure if I will do it. I have been thinking about it for several years. But until I am 100% sure that I want one, I won't do it!

I have 3. All Disney. I regret that I have them everyday. :sad2:
Mostly because everyone and their dog has a tattoo now. When I got my first one, not all the 'good girls' had them. Now they do.
I hope to get them removed some day.

Good Luck on whatever you choose! :goodvibes

I like the heart one.

I have one on my ankle, and it has special meaning to me. I don't regret it at all, and could care less what anyone else thinks of it. And it has showed in all my job interviews for professional jobs, and never caused me a problem.

The small of your back is supposedly a pretty painful place to get a tattoo, but it is a good place to get one if you need to be able to cover it for work, etc.

There are so many places. You could put it on your stomach, wrist, side (you know under your ribs, but not on your stomach or back), ankle, arm. I think its just a personal thing, but If I get one, I want it where I can see it, because I am getting it for me.

I have one on my lower back that I got this summer. Since its my only one I can't compare the pain to any other place on my body. However, I didn't think it was that painful. The way I describe it people is that it felt like if I had a sunburn and someone was scratching it - not so much a sharp pain, more of an annoying pain.

The one thing I don't like about the area is that I can't see it everyday, in fact most of the time I forget its there. I guess if I ever regret it that will be a good thing, but right now I wish I could see it more often.

I like the heart one. I don't have one yet, but I really want one.

Not to be a downer to your thread, but you mentioning tattoo and nursing home made me think of a man I took care of years ago. He had a concentration camp number tattooed on his forearm. I always think of him when I hear people who say the Holocaust never happened. :guilty:

(SORRY!!)

I've had my tattoo for about 8 years now. I thought about it for more than 10 years before I got it. Mine is a Harley tattoo that my artist changed from an intertwined HD within a vine in the shape of a heart with three roses, to an intertwined CD (mine and DH's initials). I love it, wouldn't trade it and often think of getting more!
:woohoo:

Like she said. I can't understand getting one if you are never going to see it :confused3 . That seems like a lot of coin and pain for no gain. Like buying tires. Who cares? If it is important enough to you, then get it where you can see it. If you want it on the small of your back so others can't see it, and you can't see it, what's the point?

BTW--I have no tatoos, but am considering a celtic cross on my ankle. Heard it hurts like the dickens to do the ankle, though. Anyone?

In my experience, it isn't the parts of the body that are bony, but the parts that AREN'T that hurt worse. I have one on my ankle. Yes, it was uncomfortable, but not compared to the (MUCH smaller) one on my stomach!
When I got the tattoo, the artist said that the stomach was the 2nd most painful spot she'd ever been tattooed, and her butt was the first. Of course, she said this right after she'd started, so there was no going back.

I have a tattoo on my lower back. Now take into consideration that I am still only 26 now, but I don't regret it at all. It took me months to find the tattoo that I loved, because I wasn't gonna stick something on my body that I didn't love. Then when my son died in July of 2003 I had a small blue butterfuly added to my tattoo along with his name put underneath. I have attached a picture, but be nice. I was trying to take a picture of my own back all by myself. I can only imagine how funny I looked at the time. :goodvibes

Sorry about your loss :grouphug: . Your tattoo is very nice. You took a good pic.

Briarmom, thanks for that info. I had planned to get one on my stomach this summer (but surprise baby #2 threw that plan out the window!) but now I might rethink that location. I guess it's good then that I keep having kids cause everytime I planned to get the tattoo done I got pregnant and had to postpone it. I had never heard that non-bony places hurt more so I'm glad I put it off so I can find a less painful spot!

Well, if you only get one, there will be no way for you to personally compare. ;)
Plus, it could be that just Tattoo Lady and I think that.

Get it just slightly above the ankle, where it is not so bony. That is where mine is and didn't hurt that bad.
