DD was diagnosed with Celiacs disease, which means she'll have to eat a gluten free diet. I have already made all our ADRs and wondering if anyone knew anything about "special diet's" while on the DDP.

Any suggestions, advise, or help is appreciated...

I belong to the Passporter community and there is a wonderful lady over there who is on a gluten free diet. She raves about alot of the chefs and staff who are so wonderful to work with. If you go over to that forum and look up the feasting and eatery forum she is a guide there. Her ID is caldercup. Here is the address to that page. http://www.passporterboards.com/forums/feasting-snacking-eateries/ I am sure she could offer you some great advice. She also just returned recently from WDW and she and some friends are doing a combined Trip report where she talks about her dining experiences. Here is that link: http://www.passporterboards.com/for...p-reports/210457-sousefest-trip-report-7.html The first Gluten free post is #102.
I hope I don't offend anyone on these boards by posting links to another board. I post links from this board on that board too! The cake picture link from this board, gets alot of action on the Passporter board, lol!

Look in the Disabilities thread. There are many discussions and links to dinning Gluten Free (GF) at Disneyworld. Just call the reservation line and add Special diets to your reservation. My experience is with Disneyland. When going to a resteraunt tell the hostess you have a GF eater. They will have the Chef come out and go over the menu items that your DD can eat. I have only had great experience with Disney. My DS got GF pizza made fresh to order. You will be fine.

Like a pp said, just call the dining reservation line and have them add it to your ressie. One of my kids has seven food allergies that are potentially fatal and we didn't have one problem when we took him.

At every sit down restaurant the chef came out to talk to us and they prepare the allergic person's food separately. They really went out of their way and with a great attitude about it. No one ever seemed like we were troubling them.

At the counter service restaurants you can request info about the food served there. We never had a problem with that either.

HTH!

Please don't be devastated - celiac's is an awful thing to have but once you and your daughter become used to the condition it becomes a part of life.

I went to WDW for the very first time in April 2009 and was diagnosed with celiac's 3 weeks before my trip after years of stomach problems. I was horrified when they told me the amount of foods I would have to avoid from now on for the rest of my life, particularly as I was going to WDW a few weeks later! I had made all of my ADR's and was worried about counter service more than anything.

I needn't have worried, the staff and the chefs at Disney were fantastic! I rang up Disney Dining and explained that I had now been diagnosed with celiacs and they noted this on all my ADR's. I made sure I reminded the CM when checking in, and in all the TS restaurants the chef always came out and told me what was and wasn't gluten free on the menu, and in many cases they were willing to make many of the menu items gluten free for me.

And as for counter service, I just queued up and asked the CM's what I could have from their menu that was gluten free - many of them provide gluten free buns and things for hamburgers and hotdogs, which may be good for your daughter if she enjoys those foods. If she will eat a better rang of foods, I found Cosmic Rays particularly good, they have a chicken, vegetable and mashed potato dish which is sooooooo filling!!

As one of the other posters mentioned, try the Disabilites board on here as I found this board very helpful before going to WDW.

allearsnet.com also has a great section on celiac & GF diets. Look under the "planning" section.

Thank you all for your responses and words of encouragement!! I will be checking out your suggestions and contacting Disney about my DD diet concerns.

Thanks again!

Disney is easy. But there are some things you should know.

For instance, when you get a GF meal counter service, it will take extra time. So plan for a little extra time. They won't guarentee fries as GF. Most places have GF buns, but not all (seems to me they didn't at Typhoon Lagoon), so plan. And plan on having something GF stashed so you can always pull it out (I'm fond of Clif Bars, but they MIGHT be contaminated, I'm not bad so I'm not too picky).

Also, some people seem to always see the chefs. I almost never do. And my service has varied from incredible to "I'd better figure this out for myself, the waiter is clueless." But again, I'm not bad so I'm not picky, so I don't press. And I'm pretty good at fending for myself and knowing what I can and can't eat.

It isn't bad...there are LOTS of gluten free products available - and they are getting better and better. You and she will get the hang of it in no time.

I HAVE IT AND HAVEN'T LEARNED TO FOLlOW DIET YET BUT DISNEY WILL HELP WITH MENU

I would suggest going to the disABILITIES Forum and look at Post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs. There is a large section in that post dealing with special dietary needs, as well as many related links. You can get directly to the disABILITIES FAQs by following the link in my signature.

This is a very common topic of discussion in the disABILITIES Forum.

We went with DDIL in Dec. She has celiac and it was her first trip. Disney exceeded my expectations and thrilled her with their special care. She had fried chicken at 50's Prime Time which was something she never thought she would be able to eat again. When the chef came out to talk to her, he even told her how it was made so she could go home and make it. We also ate at The Biergarten, The Rainforest Cafe and Pecos Bills. We would have eaten at Disney restaurants more if we had known how wonderful they are. Although we only usually eat one meal per day out. She had her own breakfast along. At all the restaurants the chef came out and actually asked her what she was hungry for and then made suggestions based on that. She had some pills along with her but didn't need them and had no reaction at all to anything. It was a wonderful experience.
