Hi!

I am not a computer novice, and until today, I never had a problem with viruses or malware. Well, I guess it is my turn.

I have been infected with a program named wow64main (aka wow64main.exe). From what I have read, this program is dangerous malware.

This program somehow evaded my virus scanning program and firewall. Unfortunately, my Ad-Aware and Spybot Search-and-Destroy had not been updated recently, so they could not catch it.

Can someone tell me of a reliable malware removal program? I have just read about the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware program. It comes highly recommended and seems to be what I am looking for. However, before I commit my computer and my nerves to this process, can someone tell me if he/she has used this program with success. If you have used a different program with success, please tell me which one.

Thank you for your help.

I've used ComboFix (http://www.combofix.org/) every time I've had a problem with any of my computers, and it's always done the trick. :thumbsup2

The first thing I would run is the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool. Click start --> Run --> Type MDT --> Hit enter. Run the full scan and let it go for the 4-5 hours it will take. It inspects dll files and OS parts that many virus and malware programs can't inspect. After that run the commercial/freeware mentioned above.

To be honest though I usually just take the needed files off of an infected computer and reinstall the OS from scratch. I like to reinstall from bare metal every year or two anyway and this way you get the accumulated junk out and know the problem is gone.

I have Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and it work(ed) very well when I had a virus :thumbsup2

Hi!

Thank you for the help that each of you provided. I appreciate it very much.

I used a combination of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware program, Ad-Aware, and Spybot Search-and-Destroy to clean out over 100 infected files - all traceable to a single event.

I now have what seems to be a clean computer that is once again a "speed demon".
