Help! Clogged sink emergency!

I just clogged the disposal in the kitchen sink with onion peels! The disposal didn't seize up but the onion-y water is coming up in the other sink (double sink). Does anyone know how to fix it? DH is going to be home in a little bit and will kill me! I broke two disposals in our last house with potato peels!
I never learn.

try ice cubes.

and remember, nothing stringy.... peels, husks, shoes

I think it's too late for ice cubes The clog is down in the pipes now. DH is home and all pissed. We are trying to plunge it but now it the pipes are leaking under the sink where the bend is. I think we'll need a plumber

Can you unscrew the U-trap and clean the pipe. Have a bucket ready.... If the clog is not right at the U-trap then use a snake to grab the clog and pull it out. The cheapest kind of snake is just a flat piece of plastic about 2 feet long. It has barbs on the side the will hook on the clog so you can pull it out.

Way cheaper than a plumber on weekend rates! You just need a large wrench.

Thanks so much for your suggestions! We got it fixed, DH plugged the disposal side with a ball of wet rags and then stood in the sink with one foot on the rag plug and plunged the other side for a couple of minutes. The pressure was enough to clear it I guess. I swear this will be my last time putting in peels!

ok next time... instead of plugging the disposal side, put stopper into the other side, run water into the sink with the disposal and run the disposal. the pressure build up will often times force the clog through.
